I have been a long time spanningsync user. I needed to sync my home
calendar/contacts (gmail) to mobileme, since previously iOS could only
sync one exchange account and one mobileme and I needed the exchange
account for my work account. Now iOS can do multiple exchange
accounts. Previously OS X could not fully integrate with iCal and
contacts. With Lion, I beleive this is taken care of.

So my question is ... do I still need SpanningSync? Does it integrate
the google apps better than Lion for some reason?

Have you tried Lion's Exchange support with Google? I believe Google speaks Exchange ActiveSync (the over-the-air protocol for mobile devices) but not the protocol, whatever it's called, that Outlook (and Lion?) use to speak to Exchange. Please let us know what you discover!

Thanks,
Charlie
