The underperformance might come as a bit of a surprise given how much time and effort some companies have put into lowering their tax bills.
"Income tax issues, while important, are not as important as how well as company is doing or how well an industry is performing," says Bill Selesky, investment analyst at Argus Research. "It gets to be an issue that I would put at the bottom of the list."
Yet, investors have paid closer attention to the tax rates companies pay as profit growth continues to stall along with revenue growth.
Companies must find any way possible to boost their bottom line, which for some involves looking for ways to reduce their tax liabilities ...

In reading the article, the impression that I got was that the
biggest factor was the potential loss of government contracts.
Now there's an idea that no politician ever thought about, or at
least never talked about going clear back to Carter and coming
forward to Reagan, Bush I, Clinton, Bush II, Obama, and Bernie and
Hillary.
So, isn't that kind of amazing when you think about it? The American
worker has been losing jobs since the 70s due to the loss of
manufacturing, but apparently only Trump came up with a way to
combat the problem.

Hillary tried to pass the TPP and are spending money like drunken
sailors killing Muslims in the Middle East (and Africa).
However, the industrial job losses started in the 70s as Europe and
Japan recovered from WWII and built better and more efficient
factories than we did. Given the fact that America's factories were
old and because of high union wages, it was all probably inevitable.
That doesn't mean, however, that politicians have to pass trade laws
that make things worse.
