In his book "Forgotten Legions", Tony Munoz devotes a large part to
the history and operations of the Fallschirmjager-Bataillon 500/600.
He also publishes unit histories of various other obscure Axis forces,
including Yugoslav units(Falschmjgr-Bat 500 served in Yugoslavia)

Pick up "Storming Eagles" by James Lucas Pub, Arms & Armour Press
1988. ISBN-0-85368-879-6. It coves the whole history of the German
Airborne forces in WW2., including passages on the 500th SS Fj.

The best sources are German, of course. I forget the exact title, but
there is a large German picture history of the Waffen-SS Paratroopers.
Hard-bound, lots of text, but mostly photographs. Naturally it's about
the 500/600 Fschj Batallion. If you're interested in that unit, you
need to get that book.

If I remember correctly, 500 SS Fsjr Bn was comprised of criminals who
was convicted for crimes commited in Wehrmacht service. Their biggest
action was ill fated airborne assault on Tito' HQ in city of Drvar,
Bosnia on May 25th 1944.
Germans made some initial success and took the city. However Tito wasn't
in city he was in his cave. Bitter fighting between SS-men and Tito's
escort Bn lasted throughout afternoon when Partisan 6th Lika's Divn came
to help and pushed Germans towards city's graveyard. The remnants of
SS-Bn fought their desperate battle until Partisan withdrew from the
area because of other strong German units approaching the town.
