Folks,

Does anyone have a genealogy of Joan Latimer, sister of Willian, who married
Alexander Comyn of Buchan. I can't seem to find one. Any help?

Cheers,
Kevan

This is what I have.

1 Joan LE LATIMER. Born After 1268. Died After 1320.
Joan was the sister of William, lord Latimer (d.1327).
[CP II:60, XIV:78; A Young *Robert the Bruce's Rivals: The Comyns,
1212-1314* (Tuckwell Press: East Linton, 1997) XI, 190, 207-208]
She married Alexander COMYN, of Inverfeoran.
2 Sir William LE LATIMER, of Corby, Northants. Died 5 Dec 1304. Buried in
Helpringham, Lincs, England.
William was possibly the first lord Latimer.
[CP VII:461-465; I J Sanders *English Baronies: A Study of their Origin and
Descent* (Clarendon Press: Oxford, 1963 [1960]) 33; W Farrer *Feudal
Cambidgeshire* (Cambridge University Press: Cambridge, 1920) 245]
He married Alice LEDET, About 1268.
3 Alice LEDET. Died Before 8 Mar 1317.
Alice was coheir of her father & of Christiana her great grandmother.
[CP VII:465; I J Sanders *English Baronies: A Study of their Origin and
Descent* (Clarendon Press: Oxford, 1963 [1960]) 33; W Farrer *Feudal
Cambidgeshire* (Cambridge University Press: Cambridge, 1920) 245]
4 William LE LATIMER, of Scampston, Yorks. Died Before 22 Nov 1268.
[CP VII:Chart facing 456)]
6 Walter LEDET. Died 1256.
[CP VII:464 & notes (d)-(e); I J Sanders *English Baronies: A Study of
their Origin and Descent* (Clarendon Press: Oxford, 1963 [1960]) 33 & note

1920) 245]
7 Ermentrude. Died After 8 Nov 1268.
[CP VII:464 & note (d); W Farrer *Feudal Cambidgeshire* (Cambridge
University Press: Cambridge, 1920) 245]
12 Wischard LEDET. Died 1241.
[CP VII:464 note (e); I J Sanders *English Baronies: A Study of their
Origin and Descent* (Clarendon Press: Oxford, 1963 [1960]) 33 note 8; W

24 Henry de BRAIBROC, of Braybrook & Chipping Warden. Died 1234.
Henry was the king's justiciar and was unlawfully held in detention by
Faulkes de Breaute in 1224.
[CP VII:464 note (e); I J Sanders *English Baronies: A Study of their
Origin and Descent* (Clarendon Press: Oxford, 1963 [1960]) 33; W Farrer
*Feudal Cambidgeshire* (Cambridge University Press: Cambridge, 1920) 245;
HKF I:97, 109, II:367, III:263]

[CP VII:464 note (e); I J Sanders *English Baronies: A Study of their
Origin and Descent* (Clarendon Press: Oxford, 1963 [1960]) 33; W Farrer
*Feudal Cambidgeshire* (Cambridge University Press: Cambridge, 1920) 245;
HKF III:263]
48 Robert #$ de BRAIBROC, of Braybrook. Died After 1208.
The assumption here is that Robert who had extensive lands confirmed to
him in 1208 is identical with the son of Aubreye. There may indeed be an
intervening generation of a William de Braibroc who was alive in 1188.
[W Farrer *Feudal Cambidgeshire* (Cambridge University Press: Cambridge,
1920) 245; HKF I:224, II:366, III:251, 263]

[I J Sanders *English Baronies: A Study of their Origin and Descent*
(Clarendon Press: Oxford, 1963 [1960]) 33; [W Farrer *Feudal Cambidgeshire*
(Cambridge University Press: Cambridge, 1920) 245]
194 Ivo de BRAIBROC, of Braybrook, Rut.
Ivo, in the survey of Northants temp. Henry I, held Braybrook of Robert
fitz Viel.
[HKF II:365-366]
204 Robert FOLIOT, of Chipping Warden. Died After 1173/1174.
[I J Sanders *English Baronies: A Study of their Origin and Descent*
(Clarendon Press: Oxford, 1963 [1960]) 33; W Farrer *Feudal Cambidgeshire*
(Cambridge University Press: Cambridge, 1920) 245]

occurring in English Documents, 1066-1166* (The Boydell Press: Woodbridge,
1999) I:101]
410 Richard de REINBUECURT, of Chipping Warden. Died After 1120/1130.
It is assumed here that the references to 'Ricardus filius Wydonis' at 99
and 110 of Keats-Rohan's edition of the *Northamptonshire Survey* is
identical to Richard of this notice.

According to CP VII 460-471 it goes
1. William Latimer of Scampston d. 1268
2. William Latimer Ist baron d.1304
+Alice Ledet d. 1317, daughter of William Ledet
3. William Latimer, Lord Latimer d. 1327
+ [1] Lucy de Thweng (div) d.1347
4. William Latimer d. 1335
+ [2] Sybil de Fourneaux d. 1317, daughter of Sir Richard de
Fourneaux
4. Thomas Latimer

CP does not make any reference to a daughter Joan, but Sybil de Fourneaux
had a sister called Joan who was married to Sir Henry FitzHenry.

Just a proviso with the marriage between Lucy de Thweng and William Latimer
and the birth of their son, William. Lucy was 5 months pregnant when she
married William Latimer (Ist Lord) in August 1294, so William Latimer, 1st
baron and putative grandfather had the child declared illegitimate and
induced the king to grant him the lordship and forest of Danby for life.
The paternity of the child was likely to have been that of her cousin
Marmaduke Thweng, for a year later Lucy had left Latimer and was living with
Marmaduke as his mistress. Latimer obtained a divorce and married Sybil de
Fourneaux, by which time Lucy had left Marmaduke and was living with Stephen
Meinell and had had a son by him.

Cheers
