Hello Spencer, et al.,

I would have replied sooner re: your query (going back to a post last
week), but there was some problem between SGM and AOL requiring my
re-subscribing today. At any rate:

You had asked re: descents from Alice, daughter of Hugh de
Montfort-sur-Risle, one of the known participants in the Norman campaign in
England and accepted combatant at Hastings. I show the following:

..1. Hugh de Montfort, count of Montfort-sur-Risle

......1. Alice de Montfort, m. Gilbert de Gant, of Folkingham, co. Lincoln,
d. ca. 1095 [ref. CP Vol VII {Lincoln}, p. 672n)

...........1. Emma de Gant [her maritagium including lands in Wold Newton and
Horkstow], m. Alan de Percy, of Topcliffe, co. York, d. bef. Dec 1135 [ref:
CP Vol X {Percy}, pp. 439, 439n, 440n)

...............1. William de Percy, of Topcliffe, co. York, d.s.p.m.s before
1176 [Ancestor of Percy, Lord Percy and also the Earls of Northumberland]

..........2. Walter de Gant, of Folkingham, co. Lincoln, d. 1139; m. Maud,
daughter of Stephen of Richmond (d. 1135) and his wife Hawisa [ref. CP Vol
VII {Lincoln}, p. 672 and 672n)

..............1. Gilbert de Gant, Earl of Lincoln, d.s.p.m. 1156

..............2. Alice de Gant [her maritagium including manor of Empingham],
m. 1stly Ilbert de Lacy; 2ndly Roger de Mowbray, of Masham, co. York, Thirsk
and Melton Mowbray, co. Leicester, d. en route from Palestine 1188 [ref. CP
Vol X {Mowbray}, p. 371 and 371n]
[Ancestors of Mowbray, Lord Mowbray; Thomas de Mowbray, Duke of Norfolk (d.
1399), et al.]

.............3. NN de Gant, an unnamed daughter, m. William fitz Walter, of
Well, co. Lincoln and Claxby, Norfolk, d. before 1198 [ref. CP Vol XII
{Welles}, p. 437]
[Ancestors through son Robert of Welles, Lord Welles and through daughter
Isabel, wife of Robert fitz Hugh of Tattershall, co. Lincoln, of Tateshal,
Lord Tateshal and their descendants]

Hope the foregoing is helpful.

Good luck, and good hunting.

John
