Isn't this the same Maud de Clare who may have 1st married, Roger de
Lacy or has she been placed elsewhere?

Did this Alice de Rus also marry Richard Longespee? If so, did she and
Richard have any children?

Thank you.

I just found this discussion group, and am overjoyed! How wonderful to
know there are others who also enjoy medieval genealogy and history.

I've been researching the descendants of Edward I of England for a
website I'm putting together, and have researched the Despenser line.
There are several questions I have about it, which I will ask in other
posts.

To answer the queries below, here are the children of Edward, 4th Lord
Despenser (great-great grandson of Edward I) and his wife Elizabeth de
Burghersh:

1) Edward Despenser, died young
2) Hugh Despenser, died young
3) Cicely Despenser, died young
4) Elizabeth Despenser (died 1408), married 1st, John d'Arundel, 2nd
Lord Arundel; married 2nd, William, Lord Zouche
5) Anne Despenser (died 1426), married 1st, Sir Hugh Hastings; married
2nd, Thomas, Lord Morley
6) Margaret Despenser (died 1415), married Robert, Lord Ferrers of
Chartley
7) Thomas Despenser (22 Sep 1373 - 13 Jan 1400), 5th Lord
Despenser, created Earl of Gloucester. He married into the royal family
by wedding Constance of York, first cousin of King Richard II.

This is the order of birth according to the Complete Peerage (which uses
the medieval Chronicle of Tewkesbury as its source). A 4th son, also
named Hugh Despenser (said to have died in 1424), is given by Burke's
Extinct Peerage, but isn't mentioned in Complete Peerage. It is
chronologically possible for the existence of another son after Thomas (b.
1373), as Edward, Lord Despenser did not die until 1375.

Hope this helps!

Best regards,

Brad Verity
