"Thomas de Ryhil was the first husband of Isabella daughter of Sir
Waleran le Viscount of Horton by Agnes de Vaus his wife. Isabella
afterwards married Guischard de Charron." [Archaeologia Aeliana 3
Ser. vol. i , p 42, note 6.

Guischard's gr-dau. Joan m. (1) Richard Willoughby of Wollaton, Notts
and (2) Bertram de Monboucher. The article is about Jesmond Manor
which ultimately came into the hands of the Monboucher family.

Does anyone know the identity of Waleran le Viscount and his wife
Agnes de Vaus [sic]? The location of Horton is not identified.

Thanks, Mardi

The best source to answer your query is Craster's – A History of
Northumberland, Volume: IX, Pages: 243-264 - which covers Horton Township.

Horton lies between Cramlington and Seaton Delaval in Northumberland.

In January 1203/4 King John confirmed Walran son of Robert Viscount in the
Manor of Horton of which he had been enfeoffed by Constance & Robert de
Cramavill and he also sanctioned the grant made by Constance de Cramavill
and her son to Robert fitz Roger, lord of Warkworth, of the Wardship and
marriage of Walran who was a minor. Craster says that the ancestry of
Walran is uncertain although he also owned lands in Normandy. He died on
24th August 1257. No mention is made of his wife Agnes de Vaux's parents.

Isabella was first of all married to Thomas de Castre in 1256. He died in
1261 (s.p.). Isabella then married Sir Thomas de Ryhill who died before
15th March 1266/7. Her third husband was Sir Guischard de Charron. Horton
was settled on Isabella by her father, Sir Walran de Horton, when she was
first married in 1256. Although she had issue from her second husband,
nevertheless she joined with Sir Guischard in February 1279 in settling
Horton upon Sir Guischard the younger, a child from Isabella's husband's
first marriage to Mary de Sutton.

Joan Charron sole daughter and heir of Sir Guischard de Charron (the
younger) and his wife Alice, daughter of Sir Thomas de Lucy of Cockermouth
was first of all married to Sir Bertram de Monboucher. Sir Bertram died in
1332 and Joan married before 21st February 1333/4 Sir Richard de Willoughby
(III) Chief Justice of the King's Bench. She was still alive on 12th August
1342.

Mardi has asked me to forward the following on to the Group.

Peter,

Thank you so much for all that good information. It is a big help.

Thoroton in his "Antiquities of Nottinghamshire" vol. 3 p 176-7 says:

. Mary, another of the daughters and heirs of Sir Richard de Suttpon was
married to Guichard de Charron, who, 4 e. 1. [Inq:tang:Reg:4 E: 1: Wapent.
Thurg. & Lye] with Adam de Sutton, (whom I suppose the son of Agnes, and
Gilbert de Muscamp before named), claimed several royalties in Sutton. He
had
free-warren granted here 18 E. 1. [Ch: 18 E. 1. m. 7]. By his wife the said
Mary, he had a son named Stephen, who enfeoffed his said father in this lrnd
[sic], which he settled on Guichard de Charun, his son, by a second wife, to
whom and to Alice his wife, his brother the said Stephen de Charrun, by
fine,
3E. 1. [Fin :lev: Trin: 3 E:1] passed his manor of Sutton upon Trent, which
the
said Gwischard the younger, and Alice his wife, by another fine, 3 E. 2.
[Fin:
lev: Trin: 3 E: 2] settled on Bertram de Mounboucher, and Joane his wife,
their
daugter, and the heirs which the said Bertram should beget on the body of
the
said Joane, reserving 20 l. perf annum, during the life of the siad
Gwischard;
and after his death sa rose at Midsummer to his heirs, Bertram and Joane ..

So, from what I have seen so far, we are one for one as to the identity of
the maternity of Guichard the younger.
