Thanks a lot for posting the list, Prakash & Suresh

Of the following 1995 movies, I think Ilaiyaraaja has composed for the

>9. Avatharam
>14. Chandralekha
>17. Chinna Vathiyaar*
>22. Ellame en raasathan
>30. Illayaragam
>35. Kattumarakkaran*
>37. Kolangal
>41. Makkalaatchi

>47. Maya bazar 1995
>48. MogamuL

>54. Muthu Kaalai*
>58. Nanthavana theru*

>60. Oru oorla oru rajakumari*

>63. Paatu paada vaa*
>65. Periya Kudumbam
>68. Raasaiya
>75. Sathi Leelavathi
>82. Thedi vantha rasa

___

19 movies. Any more that I missed?
Of these, I have listened to the soundtracks of "Chinna Vathiyar",
"Kolangal", "Raasaiyya" and "Sathi Leelavathi".
I recommend "Chinna V." and "Sathi L.", to those who haven't had a chance
to listen to them yet.

How about the rest? I gather from various posts that (atleast some songs of)
"Avatharam", "Chandralekha", "Kattumarakkaran", "Mogamul" and "Nandavana Theru"
are good.

Any comments of the other movies?

Thanks,
dev

Thanks for the list. In addition to Avatharam, nandavanathu theru etc, Oru
Ooril Rajakumari and vanaja girija had some good songs. In some of his
1995 songs, he seems to have focussed on an `ensemble' effect- very
effective in songs like `vandhal vandhal rajakumari' etc.`Thendral vandu'
in Avatharam is the best song I have heard in the last two years.
`Chandiranum Suryanum' in Avatharam is as sophisticated a western song as
any broadway musical song, with Ilayaraja's `country' touch.
In maya bazaar 1995, there is a song`Naan porandu' without musical
instrument- only human voices. This style of music is called `Acapella'
-meaning no instrument. Ilayaraja's attempt at Acapella is surprisingly
good( maybe not so surprising, considering his immense talent). Rahman's
attempt at Acapella was `Rasathi' in Thruda Thiruda.

Yeah.. he is a genius. What else do you expect? That is a great song.
Also, Chandralekha, songs are good.

ANd Mahesh Narasimhan tried it in Nammavar - miserably failed.

Infact, Ilayaraja first tried it beautifully in the movie "Pagalil Oru Iravu" in 1979. It was a song syng by S. Janaki with only human voices as the background score. It created waves during that time
