I have read Dawkins "The God Delusion" and listened to numerous speeches and debates in which Hitchens took part. I've read a number of the new atheist
dialogues and they all seem to make the same stupid error. They assume that all believers are Christian fundamentalists who preach the idea of Original Sin, that man is inherently evil and that the bible is to be read as literal fact.They assume that all religions threaten people with eternal damnation in Hell for all sins. Worst of all, they tell us that all religions demand that we all think alike in the sense that we must all accept what the New Testament says or go to Hell. That jackass Matt Dillahunty preaches the same crap.

In the first 11 pages of “The God Delusion”, I found 4 lies and distortions.

I'm no expert on Christianity, but I do know that the Christian Fundamentalists(bible literalists) are a minority among Christians(most polls put them at 25%).I know that, among Jews, the people who read the OT literally are a very tiny minority.

I've never heard a rabbi even mention Original Sin or Hell and the idea that man is inherently evil is not part of Judaism. In Judaism, what matters is what you do and what you think is your own affair. Under Judaism, even atheists can gain God's grace if they live a righteous life.

As is clear from this brief discussion, the Jewish tradition contains a variety of opinions on the subjects of heaven and hell. And modern Jewish thinkers have generally shied away from the topic.

The Quran also mentions who will enter hell. Disbelievers in God and especially if they die in that state, hypocrites, idolaters, the arrogant, those who treat religion as a pastime, have broken the treaty, made fun of God's messengers or reality of Day of Judgment. Murderers, ones misappropriating inheritance especially of orphans, slandering chaste women or claiming divinity for themselves on their own will dwell in hell.

Moslems can enter heaven from hell.
At multiple places in Quran God mentions that if the human beings mend their ways and ask for forgiveness He will do so and enter them to Heaven. Most of the places where Hell is mentioned the beauty and peace of Heaven is also cited to show the contrast.

Hinduism does not believe in an eternal hell. However, hellish states of mind and woeful births do exist temporarily for those who think and act wrongfully. They consist of fear, hate, jealousy, bigotry and anger, and are brought about by one's own thoughts, actions and deeds. But they are not eternal and can be changed by positive karma.
