iOS 5.1 : someone in the security team made a small mistake!

Hi All

It appears in iOS 5.1 if your iPhone is set to lock automatically on any interval other than immediate (ie after 5 mins) you can bypass the screen lock by tapping the camera icon, then tapping the photos icon in the bottom left, then push the home button.

I'd suggest security aware users should already have the auto-lock set to immediate (ie when the screen is turned off) anyway but seems like an oversight on Apple's part.

Thanks for this. Do you mean if a pas code is set it can be bypassed
or that the phone can easily become unlocked? I don't have a passcode
and the behaviour appears to be the same as 5.0.1 other than I don't
have to double tap to get the camera icon.

It's the passcode lock that you can bypass, not unlocking the carrier.

Further to that, it seems disabling and re-enabling the passcode lock sorts the problem

Sam, I just tried disabling and re-enabling pass code and i can still
bypass it via the camera.
Any other suggestions other than wait for a fix.

Set the pass code lock to immediate rather than a timed interval, that seems to work
