I got a new air book (unfortunately just before the upgrade) with 256 Gb solid memory. I migrated an older air book (128 Gb) to the new one, mostly without difficulty, although some files seem not to have copied.

I find, however, that when I download a large file to my new machine, it often says there is not enough memory to save the file.

I checked the get info on the disc and it tells me I have 147Gb free.

It looks as though even though the computer knows it has more memory, it is acting as though it has less, possibly 128 Gb instead of 256.

Any ideas, please?

Thank you,

Ranulph

Ranulph, I can't help with the capacity issue and the message you're seeing displayed but you mention 'unfortunately' having bought the MacBook just before the release of new models. A friend of mine was in a similar position a few years back and returned to the Apple store (London) to ask if anything could be done. She was offered a swap, returning the 'old' new machine for the newest released machine, I think they were equivalently priced and there was nothing more to do other than the store transfer her data (again). Something to consider if you would like same, hopefully Apple still offer the same terms now as then.

Hi Ranulph

It could also be a permissions issue in your downloads folder, check that it's not read only by making a new folder within the downloads folder. Also make sure your browser's up to date as Lion might be sandboxing it and refusing to allow it to create files.

Just a follow up.

The problem seems to have gone. It may be because I tried using Firefox instead of Safari 5.1.6, in the light of the comments on the memory hunger of Safari, and it's not very good performance overall. That seems to have worked.
