dropbox password confusion

I got an email from Dropbox saying my password had expired after accessing it through an app on the iPad. I thought it was odd so went direct to the site via the Dropbox app menu and seemed to have access. I signed out then went to sign in again (in the browser) and got the expired password message again. Thinking that this must be genuine, I've changed the password via the webform.

However, what's odd is that all my iPad apps (etc) have access (still) with the old password, presumably. And I paused Dropbox sync then restarted it to force a check and it is stuck at 'initialising'.

I cannot see a way to change the password on the Mac without unlinking. Last time I did this, it duplicated everything (not keen!)

Does this make sense or have I in fact been redirected to a phishing site somehow? How can I change the dropbox password on the machine or does it not work that way?

cheers

Genuine but I can't answer your query, sorry. Perhaps keychain is
used for apps too?

+ 1 for it's genuine. It happened to me two days ago when I linked a
new machine the DropBox account. Isn't there a link in the email from
DropBox that you can use to create the new password?

there is a link. I guess DB have started expiring passwords (not a bad thing).

What doesn't make sense to me is how so many things are still working despite the password change (including the mac app).

I assume they have some kind of 'magic link' that says 'this was properly authenticated at the time'.

A relief in some ways, given how many apps I have using it!

And DB on Mac has *just* decided to be happy working, after a restart.

thanks.

I too had the password update request via the web. I was confused that services were still working on my devices and Googled for help(!).

"When using the Dropbox desktop application, you only need your password when you first install the Dropbox desktop application or whenever you link or relink your computer to your Dropbox account. Control all access to your Dropbox account via the Security tab of your account settings on the Dropbox website"

So that was re-assuring earlier in th week. Rest easy....
