Genius or not

Is there a way of turning OFF this infernal Genius in iTunes?

each time I sync my phone or iPad this 'genius" has created another playlist and extends my sync time by copying the songs to the device.

I want to create the playlists myself

Is Genius not just a store option? If yes then you can just turn it off via the top line Store menu.
