I have a LARGE tv collection f 22000 episodes across 400+ tv series so
adding all of them is not practical. I really need the app to look up
all my series on trakt.tv and add them automatically, then have a Sync
function that updates the app's Watched status based on Trakt.tv.

It doesnt really make sense to manually update an episode to Watched
within this app every time i watch something, since my htpc app (Media
Portal) does that automatically as soon as I've watched something. So
this app should get it's Watched status from Trakt.tv and not visa
versa as it current appears to be designed for.
So all this app needs is a Sync ability from Trakt.tv to SeriesGuide,
and of course ideally to add a serries automatically to SeriesGuide
based onnTrakt.tv's listing.

Then, if the other requested functions get put in such as filtering to
show only currently active series, I can use this app on my Honeycomb
tablet to keep track of what shows are upcoming to watch. Which woukd
be awesome :-)

You should already be able to filter in this manner using the three toggles in the settings.

Yes, true, but until the app can download the watched status from
trakt, the app's main screen simply lists all the shows as unwatched.
I'm curious how everyone else uses this app. Do you manually flag an
episode as watched every time you watch it, or does this become more
effort than it's worth after a while and you simply use the app to see
what's upcoming?

On my phone I rarely open the app but merely check the widget to see when things are airing. On my tablet is where I actually keep track of what I have or have not watched yet as it's usually sitting in the room with the TV.

I plan to integrate the trakt sync into the update function, but there are some performance issues especially on phones and the lack of an efficient trakt API call. Until then you have to stick to the sync button in settings, sorry.

I thought about just syncing the shows marked as favorites to keep the update time down. In the long run I think it might be worthwile to completely switch to trakt.tv from TheTVDB for updating unless they will offer a better solution for syncing (just the episodes seen for the last x days... I already asked them: https://groups.google.com/forum/?hl=en#!topic/traktapi/C-XRykL7ALY). But still, as of right now, I would have to download all data for every show which can take a while.

what's the exact procedure to use trakt.tv as sync database?
I have two devices, my phone and a tablet. Sometimes I want to update
the shows I've seen on my phone, other times on the tablet (dependable
on the availibility).
Using a single trakt.tv account on both devices should update
information on the other device. But what do I need to do (manually)
to update the other device?
Does trakt.tv get updated automatically on the background, do I have
to push the update button or do I have to manually sync from the
settings (and if so, which of the two options).

And viceversa, how does the second device gets it's updated info from
trakt.tv, background, update button or manual sync?

Thanks!

Sorry that this is currently a little messy (still experimental, but I'm working on it ^^). Do the following:

0. To initially get your watched episodes up to trakt.tv go into settings and experimental trakt sync and hit the 'Sync to trakt' button. You can choose which shows to upload.

1. Enable 'Integrate trakt.tv' in settings. If you now mark an episode as watched in a shows overview (the eye button) this will get submitted to trakt.
2. On your devices go into settings and experimental trakt sync and hit the 'Sync to SeriesGuide' button. This will get all your watched episodes from trakt and mark them on your device. Repeat this from time to time.

The current problem is, that the 'to SeriesGuide' sync takes quite a long time because it downloads all your shows (as I said, I'm working on improving this). In the future this is planned as just an initial sync and will likely already happen automatically when adding the show. To then get the recently watched episodes the update function will be modified to fetch only those from trakt.

Hi, the dutch translations of the buttons is Sync WITH Seriesguide and
Sync WITH trakt.tv, this was kinda confusing, a better translation
would be

'Synchroniseren naar SeriesGuide'

and

'Synchroniseren naar trakt.tv'

Up until now I've alsways marked the episodes as viewed by checking
them in the list. I'll try again with the eye :)

So with the 2.4 release there is an update on this:

After adding a show you still have to initially sync up with trakt via the 'Sync with trakt' setting. But afterwards on each update your latest activity on trakt gets fetched automatically (if you have enabled 'Integrate with trakt.tv' in settings, which is on by default for new installations).

If you now check in or mark seen an episode on any device, this is reflected on any device as soon as it updates (assuming you have AutoUpdate enabled or you just press the update button yourself).

Let me know if there are problems with this. It works quite nice with my phone and tablet so far.

I'm not sure if this would be better suited for a new thread, but is there anyway for this app to pull the listing of TV shows that I have watched am already tracking with my Trakt account? It looks like at first glance that I have to manually add each show to the app to get it to sync with Trakt.  Please correct me if I am wrong.

Love this app so far, but that was the only downside.

Yes, you have to add each show manually. However if you setup your trakt account in Settings, you will see a 'Library' tab when adding a show listing all your shows on trakt.

Sorry, this is gone as the check-in functionality was added (see the release notes for a full description). The idea is to just use check-in and on the next update the episode will get marked seen automagically.

I'm not sure how to bring this functionality back in a meaningful way, because it was confusing and limited to the overview before. I hesitate to do 'full' integration aka if you mark an episode seen/unseen this gets immediately sent to trakt (I probably would need to block the UI until trakt has successfully confirmed the episode got marked).

Two questions and a request.

1) When I mark an episode as WATCHED, does SG automatically upload this information to trakt.tv, or do you need to manually activate the 'sync to trakt.tc' button in the settings?

2) When exactly does SG update the episode status from trakt.tv, when doing the general update on startup or only when you go to settings again and press the 'sync to seriesguide' button?

Request: if 1 and 2 do NOT happen automatically and the trip to the settings screen is necessary, wouldn't it be possible to add two buttons to each tv-show screen (only when you have trakt.tv credentials filled in and the show hasn't ended) from which you can start a quick update from and to that show?

Also, when you are in the sync screens, a toggle button to check/uncheck all shows that you want to upload/download in the list

Thanks again for your great app!

Have a look here: http://seriesguide.uwetrottmann.com/hints.html
Update means pressing the update button or the auto-update if enabled.
Hope this answers all your questions.

Yesterday I tried the following:

Phone: open seriesguide, wait until updates are done. Mark a show as watched.
Wait a few minutes.
Tablet: open seriesguide, wait until updates are done. Show is not updated. Update manually through the button. Show was not updated.

Now I had read somewhere (release notes??) that when you mark a show as watched in SG that trakt.tv will mark it as watched after the running time ends? Or does SG wait 40 minutes to upload the marked status?

I always update a few shows at once, say I watch Smallville 2x03, 2x04 and 2x05 and when I'm done I mark all three of them in SG.

As I said look at http://seriesguide.uwetrottmann.com/hints.html. There you find exact intstructions on how to set everything up. It says for example 'Now you Check In (trakt) an episode or Mark seen (trakt) episodes via the Share button.' If you don't use the share buttons trakt will know nothing except you manually sync with trakt in Settings.

And SeriesGuide will mark an episode as seen if it sees that it has been checked in (not waiting till the runtime completes).
