Adding DKIM records in DNS management

Has anyone been successful in adding DKIM records to handle Amazon SES in Scalr DNS management?

I added the record <key>._domainkey.domain.com as CNAME with the value but lookup by AWS is unsuccessful.  If I enter the <key>._domainkey.domain.com. (with a trailing dot) I get an "Invalid CNAME record message".

What is the correct way to add DKIM records in Scalr?
