(( Deep Space 3, Main Sickbay ))

Star date 239512.28

:: G'var sat on the edge of the biobed, staring at the gleaming metal arm that would soon be attached to her. The lights in Sickbay made the red casing shimmer as G'var turned to regard the Commander. It had been over a week since the Crew had been plucked of the surface of Limbo, against her protests Captain Rahman had sent her along with the other injured and malnourished Crew to Deep Space 3 to seek more medical aid that the Veritas could provide. Taking a calming breath G'var smiled as she saw the look of concern on Wil’s face as he too stared at the prosthetic.::

G'var:::exhaling::-Tell me again Commander, why do you have to remove the rest of my arm and three ribs?

del Vedova: Medicine isn’t magic, G’var. I want you to still be able to use your arm, and that isn’t going to happen with this prosthesis.

::Wil could sense G’var’s hesitation.  He took another look at the impressive shiny arm, and blinked his eyes.::

Ukinix: oO She’ll kill me with that thing. Oo

::He looked back at G’var, and held her good hand.::

Ukinix: Del’s the Doc.  Just gotta go with what the health professional says.

G'var:::Squeezing Wil’s hand::-I know your right of course, I was just hoping to not lose anymore to that Thrice Damned Rock! ::looking to Wil:: What I've gained fair outweighs the loss.

::Wil put his hand on her cheek.  He knew she was talking about him, but didn’t know what to say.::

Ukinix: ::Smiling:: Just don’t - hurt me with it.  ::Nervously looking at Del:: Is there a remote control for it or something?

del Vedova: ::wan smile:: Replicators are wonderful things. Beyond that, I have no comment.

G'var:::laughing::-As long as you keep Geoffrey from trying with it. You can make all the adjustments you want Pusher, just don't put a Warp drive in it.

del Vedova: I’m not the engineer here. I’m just here for the installation. If you’re looking for the one who could actually do something to it, well…

:: Del sent a meaningful look at Wil. ::

Ukinix: ::Cheekily:: Could be handy for a barbecue though, Del.

::G'var turned and took one last look at the metal limb. The last six months on Limbo had been a must unexpected journey, with the most surprising outcome that she could never had imagined, not if she had a thousand years. G'var once again gave a slight squeeze of Wil's hand, the man she had fallen in love with and whom loved her back. Looking at Wil, she prayed to Kahless he could feel her love and how he soothed the fire that burned within her. G'var knew the Commander was right when had said that it would take time to get used to the new limb, thanking Kahless once again, she New that together with Wil’s help she could complete that journey as well.::

G'var:::nodding to the prosthetic::-Alright Commander, let's get this thing on me, I don't have all day. ::smiling at Wil:: besides shore leaves wasting.

Ukinix: I can’t wait. ::Smiling cheekily:: I can see it now.  “Hey Dad, Mum, meet my new Klingon friend with a metal arm.”

:: Del started to smile, but then his gaze slipped from Wil to G’var. ::

del Vedova: In all seriousness, though: G’var, if you’re having second thoughts, we should discuss what you’d like to do. If you don’t mind, Wil?

Ukinix:  ::Nodding to Del.:: No worries.

::Wil leaned forward and gave G’var a kiss on her forehead.  As she leaned forward, he wrapped his arms around her, giving her one last hug.::

::G'var returned Wil’s embrace, as she ran her fingers through his hair. Inhaling deeply she took in as much of Wil’s scent as she could, G'var didn't know when it had happened, but at some point on their stay on Limbo, his scent had begun to Calm her nerves.::

G'var:::Releasing her embrace::-Don't go to far, you still owe me a game of Dom-jot.

Ukinix: I’ll be back after it’s all done, G.  ::Looking at Del:: Break a leg, mate.

del Vedova: ::with a wink:: Hopefully not.

::Wil left sickbay, nervous for G’var.::

G’var:::Turning back to the Commander::-Now that Wil’s gone Doctor, I do have something else I wanted to speak to you about.

del Vedova: Please. I’m at your disposal. Is it about the procedure--or something from the moon?

G'var: No, nothing to do with Limbo, but I am following the nutritional guidelines that have been set for us all. I’m finally beginning to feel my strength returning.

del Vedova: That’s great news. That will only continue as time goes on.

G'var:::Taking a deep breath::-I just have a concern about the after effects of the surgery. You've seen my file Commander and I wanted to know if I’ll have any lingering issues with the prosthetic?

::As the Commander took a moment to think, G'var's own mind raced with possibilities. Would her own body betray her again? Would the motor control issues and numbness she’d experienced for the last five years continue to plague her. Would she even be able to use the prosthetic correctly. G'var’s mind was alive with images of herself unable to control the new arm and possibly endangering others around her, especially Wil.::

del Vedova: You will, but maybe not in the way you think. Every person is different, and every prosthesis is different. It’ll take you time to adjust, but we won’t know for sure how you respond to it until we try. I mean, all of the prep work says that this is a great choice, but we just can’t know until we go for it. ::beat:: I have set you up with a schedule of biweekly visits to the sickbay on Veritas--

G'var:::standing angrily::-Hold on Commander! I won't be poked and prodded like some test animal. I've had enough of that from Starfleet Doctors in the past.

:: Del smiled gently. Her reaction was completely understandable. ::

del Vedova: You won’t be, I promise. I’ll be the one overseeing this surgery, and I’ll do your follow-ups as well. I’ll be checking at every step along the way to make sure that everything remains okay.

::Taking a deep breath, G'var found the light, thinking of Wil she calmed herself. She knew the Commander’s Medical skills were above reproach, G'var knew to she could place her trust in the Commander, the difficulty in her prejudice.::

G'var:::Sitting back down::-My apologies Commander I was out of line, I know you're trying to help. My track record with Doctors is not stellar. I've seen you in action at the worst of times Commander, you’re a fantastic healer.

:: Del smiled briefly at the praise --  who didn’t like to hear something like that, after all? -- but he made sure he was serious again before he responded. ::

del Vedova: I appreciate that, G’var, really. I just want to be sure that you understand that the hard part doesn’t end with the surgery. It’ll take weeks, months, maybe years for you to fully become used to the prosthesis. I think you’ll master it quickly, but you have to let yourself have whatever time you need.

G'var:::looking at her shoulder::-I'm concerned that when the prosthetic is attached my body will react like before and the scar tissue will return and i’ll eventually not be able to use the prosthetic at all.

del Vedova: It is a possibility. I don’t think there’s a strong possibility that will happen. If it does, though, there are several possible courses we could follow. ::beat:: But let’s think about that when we have to, and not before.

::G'var listened as the Commander spoke, nodding she knew that the road ahead again would be long, not just with learning to accept and use her prosthetic arm, but in fighting her own body. Taking several deep breaths she could still smell Wil’s lingering scent. Smiling again, G'var was truly thankful she wouldn't have to do it alone. Love was worth Fighting for, and the most powerful weapon, squeezing her phantom hand tightly, G'var knew she would be victorious.::

G'var:::holding her hand out to the Commander::-I'm willing to do whatever it takes to solve this problem. ::raising her brow:: just no poking and prodding Commander.

del Vedova: ::smile:: I promise.

G'var:::Standing::-You're the Doc, Commander ::nodding to the prosthetic arm:: Now let's get that thing on me, I wasn't joking, we're wasting shore leave.
