De Scheppes: Then perhaps I should start with him?

García: Not a finer place to start. As the XO lead the away mission, he’ll be best placed to advise on who to prioritise for the report. (Ben nodded to himself.) Yep, that’s where we'll start.

Dime made a few notes on her own PADD as Commander García sipped his tea and read a message that arrived. However, the way he froze for a moment during his reading suggested to Dime that the message's content was not to his liking.

De Scheppes: Something wrong, sir?

Garcia: Just thinking.

Dime wasn't the most experienced officer, but she didn't believe that for a moment, and she fixed the commander with a look that said so.

Garcia: Look, we’ve actually got a small … (Ben held out his hands open palmed) … diplomatic issue at the minute.

De Scheppes: A diplomatic issue? (beat, then confused) Related to your last mission? Or -- we're close to Ferengi space. Something there?

Garcia: Nothing like that. I mean Ops. As a department.

De Scheppes: (slowly, still confused) The -- department?

Garcia: Might be easier if I show you first.

Dime nodded and received the PADD that the commander passed over. She glanced through it, though she didn't know the acronym that seemed to be particularly, hm, acrimonious.

De Scheppes: What's RAMS, sir? It seems to be causing a headache.

Which was, if she did say herself, a very diplomatic way of saying so.

García: Response

De Scheppes: I see. So he's unhappy with room assignments?

It seemed a trivial enough thing, but Dime didn't have any idea yet what the senior staff was like. Maybe this was a longstanding departmental dispute.

García: Response

De Scheppes: I'll help where I can, sir, and if I can. I'm new enough that I can be impartial.

García: Response

Dime nodded along as the commander laid out what he would've liked her to do.

De Scheppes: Yes, sir. You can count on me.

García: Response

Dime's comm badge chirped at that moment, and she glanced at Commander García for his okay to take the comm. When he nodded, she tapped the channel open.

Brell: =/\= Brell to De Scheppes. =/\=

Captain Brell! She sat up a little straighter, and locked eyes with the commander for a moment.

De Scheppes: =/\= Go ahead, Captain. =/\=

Brell: =/\= I am sorry I kept you waiting for that meeting, I’m about to make myself a fresh seaweed salad for lunch. I need to make a rather large batch to use the last of what I have here would you care to join me. We can talk all you’d like about diplomacy in Starfleet. =/\=

De Scheppes: =/\= That's very generous, sir. Where can I meet you? =/\=

Brell: =/\= My quarters are on deck five in the family section. =/\=

With a nod, she tapped the channel closed, and then looked inquiringly at García.

De Scheppes: With your permission, Commander?

García: Response

De Scheppes: I'll speak to him as soon as I'm able.

García: Response

And, with that successful introduction to both the second officer and the ship, Dime quickly took her leave.

(( Brell’s Quarters, Deck 5, USS Thor))

Dime it up to Captain Brell's quarters in record time, thanks in part to the Thor's turbolifts, which definitely lived up to the turbo part of their name. She chimed and had to wait for a moment only.

Brell: Enter!

She did so, to find the captain preparing his lunch.

De Scheppes: Hello, Captain. Thank you for inviting me to see you.

Brell: Good to meet you Lieutenant, take a seat, unless you’d like to join in on chopping all this up.

De Scheppes: I'll take a seat, thank you. But I'm happy to help if you need me.

But she smiled as she spoke, to let him know again that she appreciated his largesse.

Brell: It’s a shame my wife Lyldra has already left the ship, I may have been an Ambassador but she is the career diplomat. ::Grinning.:: I will do my best to represent all she has taught me.

De Scheppes: I would appreciate it all, sir. I've trained for this position, but I haven't really experienced it, if you know what I mean.

Brell: Response

De Scheppes: It's a shame that you're transferring, sir. Otherwise I could work with you -- but I am grateful nonetheless. Tell me, on a ship like the Thor, what's essential to know for the situations I'm likely to find myself in?

Brell: Response

She nodded along.

De Scheppes: I see, I see.

Brell: Response

De Scheppes: Another question about the ship, if I may? I spoke with (beat) a superior officer, who seemed to imply some discord between departments. Is that -- normal?

Brell: Response
