Although it was shore leave, Operations couldn’t be left wholly unattended given the extent of the repairs and refittings. Of course, the bulk of the work fell on the shoulders of Engineering, but Ops had their work cut out too. If Engineering were gears driving the repairs, then Ops was the grease that kept the gears slick and moving.
With the best part of a day logged in the Thor’s Operations office, Ben had brought a case of PADDs back to his temp quarters on DS9 in order to finish off the room assignments.
He’d changed out of uniform into his chill pants and T and had made a cuppa, drips from which now splashed on the laminate flooring as he carried the mug of tea from the kitchenette to the dinning table, where he settled into the cushioned upholstered seat.
Crew turnover was high. Ben had expected as much given the incidence of fatalities during the mission. The backlog of room allocations was sobering. Each allocation represented the despair of a life lost. But, it also represented a new future, a life and untold opportunity.
Ben swilled a gulp of tea around his mouth.
Finally, he picked up the PADD and continued with the room assignments.

Quarters are assigned via the ship’s Room Allocation Management System (RAMS).
By default, all junior officers serving without dependents (up to the rank of Lieutenant Junior Grade) occupy shared quarters unless alternative arrangements (ARS) have been granted. ARS can be requested at any time through RAMS and are managed by Operations.
