“Pulling Back The Veil: Part I”

((Kiessa Monastery, Bajor))

Alex stood on the remains of the wall, looking down onto the wide river that wound its way around the foothills of what would have qualified as a defensible position once upon a time. The view of the setting sun basking the walls in a warm glow, a cooling breeze blowing through - although the stone had absorbed a lot of heat, it really was a pleasant evening.

The ruins of Kiessa stood as a testament to both the horrors of the occupation of Bajor as well as the tenacity of the Bajoran people. During the occupation the Cardassians had sent four hundred soldiers to destroy the monastery, probably believing it to be a symbol of hope and freedom, and had killed seventeen unarmed monks in the process.

Now, however, in the post-Dominion era and with Bajor now nearly a decade into their full Federation membership there was a renewed effort to try and re-establish some of their histories - and part of that began with Kiessa. There were some small lodgings built into the remaining features as well as a small shrine and the gardens were really coming along well. It was becoming a popular destination for pilgrims and, while it had lost some of its physical histories - it had lost none of its cultural sides. It had endured.

He felt Sam approach before she spoke.

Samara: They’re here.

He turned to face his effective aide-de-camp...or in the case, aide-de-campfire...as they had both been setting up some tents near one of the pilgrim campsites. Samara had been visiting with an old friend who was volunteering at the monastery but had clearly seen their guest’s shuttle touching down.

Brodie: Well, I suppose we should go see them then? How’s Tau?

Referring to Tau Ren, Sam’s friend from the late unpleasantness.

Samara: Basking the Prophet’s glow...although that might just be the spring wine.

Brodie: Let’s not judge him too harshly, Sam; if I’d lived his life I’d drink too. :: They watched as the group disembarked and began walking towards them.:: Welcome to Bajor everyone…:: turning to Elandra::...or should I say welcome back in some cases.

Dar and Kalib stepped off the shuttle and were immediately greeted by Councillor Brodie and Samara. She offered them both a warm smile and Kalib did the same. It had been a long time since she had been to Kiessa Monastery and she could see that some things had changed a little but for the better.

Alieth moved behind the Bajorans with obvious curiosity on her face. Something that hadn't animated her features in several days which, despite her impeccable demeanour, seemed slightly gaunt and pale.

Dar: Definitely welcome back, yes Councillor. We spent a few days at my parents home in Tozhat province was nice to see them again.

Samara: I didn’t realise your family were in Tozhat. Mine are from Musilla...historically anyway. ::Turning to Brodie:: This is Dar Elandra, I think you’ve met, and her son Dar Kalib.

Alex looked at the woman and then across to the adolescent male she was with.

Brodie: Ah, I see. A pleasure to meet you young man. How’re you feeling?

Kalib: Good thank you sir.

Kalib glanced around a bit distracted by the surroundings a bit to be concerned with the conversation the adults were entertaining.

Brodie: How’s your visit going? I trust your parents are well?

Dar: They are well thank you for asking, but my mother did ask that I try and be back before Ha’mara begins, Prophets know she’ll have my head if I am not.

Samara: ::smiling:: And rightly so.

Brodie: I hope you didn’t have any trouble finding the place. Have you visited Kiessa before?

Dar chuckled her mother was a strong and stern woman but family meant the world to her and it always had, she guessed that it was she had fought so hard to get Bajor to were it was now.

Dar: I have been here before yes, but it was a very long time ago and under much different circumstances.

She looked up towards the Monastery ruins in the distance, it was almost like it had happened yesterday, taking in a deep breathe the air was cool and sweet almost.

At that moment, the Vulcan ceased her inspection of the surroundings and took a step forward, and made use of the momentary pause in the conversation to finally greet the others.

Alieth: Long life and prosperity, Counsellor, Ms Samara

Samara: Just ‘Samara’ is fine Doctor...but whatever you’re most comfortable with.

Dar smiled seeing Alieth, she remembered the first time she had met the Vulcan officer and had to admit it was unforgettable. She glanced at Kalib as his face seemed to brighten seeing Alieth. He ran up to her and before the Vulcan officer could protest gave her a hug.

Kalib: Alieth...I am so happy to see you, have you met my mother?

Dar: :: Chuckling. :: Yes I have Kalib I invited her along remember.

Brodie: Welcome, Alieth. An unexpected surprise but certainly not an unwelcome one.

She nodded briefly

Alieth: Yes, Miss Dar extended me her invitation to accompany her to observe the festival, it was certainly a favourable coincidence that my first visit to Bajor coincided with it.
