((Alterations & Upholstery Shop, SB 118))
::Norvan Darros was puttering. Not really working, not really relaxing, just…
puttering.
It was something he indulged in every time he was worried or
anxious. And make no mistake, the recent
series of explosions, warnings and security alerts made him very, very
nervous. It was difficult for him to
leave his homeworld. It had taken a long
time and a lot of outside assistance to build up for Onara and Brekka. It was still rare that families traveled offworld. Usually families pooled resources to allow
one child to get offworld, and then offworld Brekkians clustered together for
support whenever they found one another.
He considered himself very lucky to have found Lyyian. She was more motivated than any other
Brekkian he had ever met. She had gone so far as to enlist in Starfleet –
something that Norvan had never dreamt of doing. She considered him brave for starting his own
shop. He considered her the far braver
of the pair for leaving home to take the scary unknown steps in becoming a
Starfleet officer.
So when another Starfleet officer approached him he nearly
jumped out of his skin.::
Pritzker: Excuse me. I’m looking for a Norvan Darros?
Darros: ::Looking up, eyes wide:: Th-that’s me. I’m Norvan Darros. What can I do for you?
Pritzker: Good evening. I am Lieutenant(jg) James Pritzker,
Counseling Officer, aboard Starbase 118. Your fianceé, Chief Warrant Officer
Sershan is in Sickbay and wanted me to notify you of what happened.
Darros: ::He took in a breath, and it caught in the back of
his throat:: Sickbay?! Is she
okay?! ::Panic rose in his voice. The civilians hadn’t gotten much information
on the particulars of the attacks, but to think that Lyyian was one of the
targets? He swayed a little on his feet
imagining the worst::
Pritzker: She is resting comfortably now. She was wounded
when an intruder attempted an escape and shot her, after shooting another
officer with her.
Darros: :He clapped a hand over his mouth in shock::
Shot? ::his breath came in short, quick
pants, as a static, electric crackle coursed through him – just enough to make
Pritzker’s hair stand on end:: Can I see
her? ::He had to see her. Make sure she was alive…::
Pritzker: Yes, I believe that would do her a world of good
to go and pay her a visit.
Darros: ::There was a flood of relief in his voice as the
static discharge around him calmed:: Can
I follow you there? I don’t have
anything important going on right now, I can close the shop up. ::The words were fast and pleading::
Pritzker:?
Darros: Ok, yes, I will certainly do that. ::he started gathering things up and putting
them away:: I just… getting news like
this, you have to see something with your own two eyes, right? ::he was shaking as he finished his
work:: I never thought anyone would
attack the station, let alone Lyyian.
Pritzker: ?
Darros: ::He shook his head:: most of us permanent civilians
come here because it feels safe.
Colonies have storms and disasters.
Civilian bases have pirates and mafias.
Starfleet bases are supposed to be safe.
Strict but safe.
Pritzker: ?
Darros: ::Following the man.:: No, this is the first incident that has
really rattled me. I’m not planning on
leaving – but I’ll follow Lyyian if she goes somewhere else. It’s not often you find another Brekkian out
in the stars like this. And she’s
special. ::He murmured fondly::
Pritzker: ?
Darros: Have you ever been engaged, Lieutenant?
Pritzker: ?
