((Beachhouse - Raskor I))

::The obscenely beautiful wash of summer sunlight on the pristine beaches of Raskor I was not lost on Nacien Rixx.

He was enjoying the safety and comfort of sheer anonymity while wearing his actual face - the one he was born with - plus a nice set of contact lenses that covered up the sheer pits of blackness that were his Rodulan eyes. After he killed off his latest persona of Drin Jerol to throw the murderous, belligerent and all too easy to manipulate pirate queen Chennel off his trail he decided to pay a visit to his old friend Commodore Allan Kinney.

He had been welcome as an honored guest and had spent the next two weeks dining, dancing and in general enjoying all of the pleasures of Raskor while he let Chennel whittle away at the defenses and sanity of the Starfleet crews of the Trinity sector. She could do his work for him - he didn't even have to give her orders. All he did was give her a little push, a chance at greatness and her rage-filled vanity did the rest.

Better yet, when she fell - and she would fall - she would take all the blame with her. Rixx would create a new name and a new face to step into her place and assume outward control of the whole sector until he found a new perfect patsy like Chennel. Meanwhile Rixx - the real Rixx - maintained his pristine network of connections across four empires and his payload of a trillion bars of gold pressed latinum (give or take a few billion) per year and schmoozed with dozens of high ranking people who hadn't the slightest idea of the crimes he had committed.

Dressed in an impeccable white suit, he was ready and waiting when his host came strolling by.::

Kinney: Ah, Nacien. I trust you are enjoying youself?

Rixx: ::He smiled kindly:: Never been better, Commodore. ::gregariously, like two old friends talking:: You're a bit late, anything wrong?

::Kinney waved a hand in the air::

Kinney: Oh, no... just some border skirmish.

::he tried to pass it off as nothing, but the images of his conversations over subspace flashed into his head.

And just like that Nacien Rixx read everything like a book without Kinney ever knowing. Rixx was aware of Arrhimen's transgressions, and he knew that deep down Allan Kinney believed that sending the USS Albion to stop him (again) was suicide.

But Kinney was a very malleable person, and it hadn't taken much to suggest that the Albion would be the perfect bait for Arrhimen. It was a reasonably sound plan - if the Avalon could pull her weight. And while the ship had the base armaments and fighting capacity to do so, Kinney suspected that Captain L'Trena didn't have the chops for war.

All Rixx had done was ease Kinney's fears and assure him that L'Trena was up to the task. What harm was there in that?::

Rixx: A border skirmish is never a good thing when you have borders with the Klingons and the Romulans. ::he soothed:: I heard the Romulans are being quite paranoid about recent events.

Kinney: They are. ::he nodded, strolling out onto the beach.:: Something to do with internal politics. If I knew the particulars I'd be able to retire as a god or a general.

::Nacien Rixx offered a small, sympathetic nod. The Romulans were usually closed lipped about something because they were searching for answers that give them the upper hand or because they felt they could profit form something. In this case it was likely the former - getting blamed for a criminal's transgression was rarely beneficial.

The again, with groups such as the Ralaaram Ocala on the rise to power, there were those inside the Romulan Empire who wanted war at any cost, and didn't care what suicidal steps were taken to get there.::

Rixx: Yes, information is at a premium these days, and in this tumultuous sector. ::truth. But what Rixx didn't mention was that he made a fortune off the trading of information.::

Kinney: Ain't that the truth. ::he stopped, looking upwards to the stars.:: Maybe we'll get a miracle in the skies tonight.

::The Rodulan stopped beside him, offering a moment of silence before he added his thoughts. Rixx didn't really care whether the Albion succeeded or failed. The Ferengi were right - war was good for business and so was peace. If the Albion died, it eliminated one of the snoopier and effective Starfleet crews he had seen in recent memory. If they lived they would keep Chennel busy. Either way he could see the positives.::

Rixx: Maybe we will. All we can do is hope for the best.
