((Planet Side, Modular Sickbay Unit))

::Inside the Modular Sickbay, the filtered air was still thick with tension and unease after the live explosive device had been rather crudely removed and disposed of. After the brief conversation Mirra had with Baylen, she had returned to the main area where bed space was actually becoming a bit of an issue. Those who had been in critical condition, including the unfortunate gentleman who had brought in said live ordinance via his chest cavity, had been moved to a more isolated area for closer observation.

Much to her extreme displeasure, several of the beds were currently occupied by a few patients with rather minor injuries, but who were in the grip of acute drug withdrawal. It seemed ATH wasn't exclusive with it's target demographic. Just in this small Sickbay alone it ranged from the casual user, to the full blown addict. She and the other medical staff had designated a small area away from the general population as at least two of the patients required restraints after they become increasingly violent. At least one nurse had been bitten, and another medical officer would certainly be sporting a black eye come morning. Rubbing her temples, she reinforced her mental shields before stepping through the small privacy curtain to what they were referring to as the "Detox arena". Clenching her jaw, she approached an adolescent boy, no more than 15, severely malnourished, unwashed, and writhing beneath his restraints, moaning in pain.::

Ezo: ::laying her hand on his restrained arm and speaking calmly:: I know...I'm sorry, I truly am, but I need to check your vitals.

Young patient: ::moaning in agony:: Please doc...just give me a hit, I need it, I'm dying here! I'm dying! ::increasing agitation:: YOU ARE KILLING ME!!!

::Unfortunately, he wasn't that far off. Whomever had manufactured this drug, had done it in a way that over time, it replaced the certain functions of the autonomic nervous system, and without it, the brain seemed atrophied in places like an underused muscle. This patient was on the brink of catastrophic organ failure. They simply didn't have the time to allow the brains natural chemistry to re-learn certain commands. Murmuring soft, soothing reassurances, she upped the dosage of the mild sedative the patients were currently receiving. Checking his vitals, she confirmed her fears, he was slipping.

Near storming out of the confinement area, Mirra went to the small research station, slamming her PADD down in marked frustration.::

Ezo: ::angrily:: I'm losing him. ::clearing her throat:: I'm losing all of them, and there is not a damn thing I can do but make them relatively comfortable. ::exhaling harshly:: This isn't some terminal disease, it's this cursed ATH! ::quietly::This is madness...

Anders: Response?

Ezo: ::shaking her head:: That was last hour. Now it's the liver. ::scrubbing her hands down her face:: Short of putting them on life support and a medically induced coma, I'm out of ideas...

Anders: Response?

::Before she could respond, she heard the all too familiar chirp of her commbage.::

Whittaker: =^= "Whittaker to Ezo." =^=

Ezo: ::brows furrowed in confusion::  =/\= Ezo here, what can I do for you? =/\=

Whittaker: =^= "How would you like to get your hands on some untouched merchandise?" =^=

::It seemed that the instrument of her patients salvation would be the very same that landed them in her Sickbay in the first place. Cautiously optimistic, she shared a look with Baylen.::

Ezo: =/\= Oh Theo, how you spoil me, and it's not even my birthday. =/\=

Whittaker: =^= "Lock your transporters on to my comm signal and beam the hypospray." =^=

::Quickly getting the transporters calibrated to his signal, she prepared to receive the sample.::

Ezo: =/\= Locked and ready. And what am I to owe in return for this gracious gift of yours? =/\=

Whittaker: :: chuckling :: =^= "The next round of cosmopolitans are on you then." =^=

::Grinning and shaking her head as the comm line closed, the hypo and vial shimmered and appeared. Mirra hesitantly reached for the vial as if it would burn her. For all she knew, it potentially could. Holding it up to the light, she glanced between the innocent looking vial and Baylen. Taking a deep breath she chewed her lip in thought. oO Something so small causing so much devastation...Oo::

Ezo: ::straightening:: How's your chemistry...? It seems we have some product to replicate....

Anders: Response?

Ezo: ::sighing:: I never thought I'd ever say this...::false cheeriness:: but let's go get these patients on some drugs!

Anders: Response?
