((Commodore Kinney's Officer - Embassy of Raskor I))

::Allan Kinney suspected he knew why these rebellious officers were here. They fancied themselves heroes and they wanted justice for the perceived crimes against the Albion.

Kinney shook his head. He had given Sal Taybrim and his crew the chance to play things his way more times than he wished to count. No. That Ops crew always bucked orders and questioned everything. So what if Kinney made an alliance with Nacien Rixx? He had done so to ensure the peace of the Trinity sector. Rixx promised to get rid of Chennel, which in turn would put a definitive stop to the arms trading to the Romulan terrorist group the Resiliency. In Kinney's mind the fact that Rixx has some side businesses mattered little. He saw himself as a master of 'the big picture' while the trio in front of him was all too enamored with the little details right in front of their face.

Had he done some less than honorable things to ensure the safety of the Trinity sector? Sure he had. But you don't make an omelet without breaking a few eggs...::

Kinney: Yes... ::He paused, moving in front of his desk to face them fully:: It was terrible to hear about the destruction of the Avalon and the subsequent loss of life. I am a bit surprised that she went down so easily.

Trel'lis: Oh? Did you expect an ‘even battle’? It was unfortunate, the D’Deridex class vessel used by Arrhimen proved superior, in the end.

Taybrim: Captain L'Trena initiated contact with the Sienov before we were able to rendezvous.

::He held back an huff. Sure, blame L'Trena. He was just getting out of a coma and couldn't defend himself. Kinney held back and didn't roll his eyes even though he wanted to. Still, the growing feeling of disgust rolling off him was palpable.

He was saddened that L'Trena had lost so much. He had been a good officer, never questioning orders. Kinney liked that in a subordinate.::

Kinney: L'Trena's logs indicate that he was not targeting the Romulans, merely investigating a disturbance in the nebula...

Ezo: ::keeps her eyes level, taps her temple in nonchalance as suggested by Captain Taybrim, her tone clear, and even:: The disturbance being the stolen Romulan vessel piloted by a mad man..

Trel'lis: ::nods:: A driven mad man.

::Allan flickered his eyes between the ladies and Taybrim. That redhead. Those dark eyes. Of course the Betazoid Captain would bring a Betazoid medical officer with him. No way. Kinney was no telepath but he was paranoid enough that he had learned the human tricks for foiling surface-level scans. And if they touched him to get a deeper reading of his thoughts he would have them clapped in irons and dragged off to the closest penal colony before someone could say 'telepathic violation.'

He started to picture Sonny, the golden retriever he had as a kid. Even as he listened to the words, in his mind he focused upon Sonny. That should provide an interesting mental image for the mind reading witches...::

Taybrim: We still had a plan, one that was not followed. ::He countered, slowly realizing that Kinney was leading the conversation:: Whether L'Trena meant it or not, he drew the Sienov's wrath before backup was available.

Kinney: Backup, yes... convenient thing those Klingon allies of yours showed up when they did... ::a vague tone of accusation in his voice::

::What was this crew doing with such high level Klingon allies anyways? Kinney had never approved that. All Klingon relations in this sector were supposed to go through Raskor, and yet if the rumors were true this crew not only had strong relations with a Klingon councilor, but they had been recognized by the Chancellor.

That was a dangerous loose canon. Kinney didn't trust the Klingons and he really didn't trust a rebellious group of would-be heroes to have strong relations with the Klingons.::

Ezo: ::smiles with saccharine sweetness:: We owe our allies a great deal. Had they not been on a patrol of their own nature, ::tilts her head slightly:: Well, who could say what would have happened...?

Trel'lis: I don’t even want to consider the possibility of ‘what if’! A man of *your* caliber, would know patrols are conducted by ships of other peoples, especially after such a vicious attack, prompting the Avalon even being dispatched.

::Kinney's eyes narrowed on the slender diplomat::

Kinney: What exactly are you insinuating, Lieutenant?

Trel’lis: What I am saying is, I would think a covert recon would have been ordered *first* before sending ships in overtly.

Kinney: How do you know one wasn't done? We knew that the Sienov was commanded by Haz Arrhimen after all...

Ezo: ?

Taybrim: ::The Captain's voice was diplomatic and cajoling:: Perhaps, Lieutenant, you'll explain the reason for your misgivings.

Trel’lis: I suppose my original security/tactical thinking kicks in, as that was my first career, prior to switching to the Diplomatic Corps.

Kinney: You were sent out with the information you needed. In fact, you had more time and more advantage to prepare yourself than the Avalon did and yet she followed orders without question. ::His voice raised in pitch, getting to a point where it was barking and hot.::

Taybrim: And the Avalon lost nearly five hundred crew...

Ezo/Trel'lis: ?

Kinney: Did you tell L'Trena about the Klingons? No, you didn't. You were an integral part of that fight, and you failed to share decisive information to a fellow Captain.

Taybrim: We warned him to stop, told him to wait. The Klingons were uncloaked and it was plain to see they were on our side.

Ezo/Trel'lis: ?

Kinney: ::Loud, angry:: Unacceptable!

::His face was getting red. How pigheaded were these people? Why could they not accept that they played a part in this tragedy? He would have been fine if they had gone back to their space station and stayed there, keeping out of his hair while he cleaned this mess up, but no... here they were in his face and blaming him for their failures.::

Taybrim: ::Calm. Dangerously calm.:: Commodore Kinney, we did everything we could to save the Avalon. Even after her warp drive exploded we mounted a rescue effort to bring back any survivors. Had the Avalon heeded our warning she might still be in one piece today.

Ezo/Trel'lis: ?

::Allan had just about enough. He turned his back on the trio, walking towards the window and putting his hands on his hips.::

Kinney: You see a threat in everything, Taybrim. You and your crew are conspiracy theorists of the worst kind. You could have followed L'Trena's lead, backed him up and the outcome would have been much different.

Taybrim: Yes, we would have all been dead. ::The words slipped out, the bitter truth as Sal saw it. It wasn't diplomatic, but he stood there, unabashed at having said it.::

Ezo/Trel'lis: ?

::Kinney just started to turn as a glint appeared from the trees, and in the next moment the window exploded into a million tiny shards as a precise burst of phaser fire pierced the transparent aluminum, superheating it to far beyond normal tolerances...::

Ezo/Trel'lis: ?
