((Governor’s Office, Karakka Colony))

Mei’konda: =/\= Yes.  Lenik is currently holdiing her captive on his ship.  Rest assured, though, Governor, we will not allow him to stage an attack on Karakka. =/\=

Lawroc: ::pauses:: =/\= I’d like to believe, Captain, that you and your crew have the capacity to stop him. But the truth is that a madman like Lenik can’t be stopped without great sacrifice. He has nothing to lose while we have everything.=/\=

::Eh’ilha studied the felinoid for a long moment, her mind somewhere else. The inhabitants of Karakka had made a life here, despite the circumstances that had been against them ad

Mei’konda: =/\= Of course.  Contaact us if you need any assistance.  In the meantiime, I will have my operations officer ensure that we transmit any relevaant information that we’re gathering up here. =/\=

Lawroc: ::nods:: =/\= Thank you, Captain.=/\=

Mei’konda: =/\= We’ll be in touch soon.  Montreal out. =/\=

::A moment later, the comm line closed and she found herself staring at a black screen. Her brow furrowed. After her conversation with Mei'konda, she was torn. It was clear that the Montreal crew had what they believed to be good intentions. But she had to protect the people of Karraka first and foremost. She entered a series of commands into the console in front of her. Moments later, the face of Captain Hackett appeared on the screen.::

Lawroc: What's the status of the defense satellites?

Hackett: Undamaged. We are reasonably confident they are unsabotaged, and we can bring them online at a moment's notice.

Lawroc: ::nods:: Have your team ready to bring them online quickly, but not until I give the order. We may have a fight on our hands.

Hackett: Aye, ma'am. What about the ground-based interception network? We've got crews checking them out in detail, and we should have them online within a half hour.

::Her brow furrowed. A half hour? They were facing a near catastrophic crisis and he was telling her an half hour? Surely there were ways to get the defense satellites back online quicker than that. She wasn’t entirely sure how much confidence she had in the Montreal’s ability to defend the planet. If her observations were anything to go by, the Federation vessel was frail and vulnerable.::

Lawroc: Pull people from other locations in necessary. We need them back online quickly.

Hackett: Will do. :: Hackett looks at the sensor network and frowns, then goes pale.:: The freighter Belfast will impact Karakka at sufficient speed to destroy the biosphere - and the continent it impacts, most likely, in eighteen local minutes, governor.

Lawroc: ::growls:: What?

::She cursed under her breath and a scowl formed on her face. As she suspected, the Montreal was doing all they could to appear in control. This latest news only confirmed her suspicions that they weren’t.::

Lawroc: Mobilize our air fleet. We need to do everything we can to tractor the ship and steer it away from the highly populated centers.

Hackett: Response

Lawroc: ::scowls:: I don’t want to hear that, Captain. Keep that ship from hitting the capital. That’s an order.

Hackett: Response

::She cut the comm with an angry jab at the button on her console, leaning back in her chair and running her hands through her hair. This was turning into a complete disaster. Just thinking about all of the innocent lives at stake made her shudder. She’d fly an airship herself if need be. That freighter couldn’t reach the surface. They had to stop it.::
