Hackett: Will do. :: Hackett looks at the sensor network and frowns, then goes pale.:: The freighter Belfast will impact Karakka at sufficient speed to destroy the biosphere - and the continent it impacts, most likely, in eighteen local minutes, governor.

Lawroc: ::growls:: What?

Lawroc: Mobilize our air fleet. We need to do everything we can to tractor the ship and steer it away from the highly populated centers.

Hackett: I can do that, but the impact velocity means they'll be unable to do much.

Lawroc: ::scowls:: I don’t want to hear that, Captain. Keep that ship from hitting the capital. That’s an order.

Hackett: Aye, ma'am.

:: That was an impossible order. Still, they would have a few of the ground based missle launchers up soon. And the satelite network was rotating to face the Belfast, and he didn't look forward to firing on those hostages. But their lives were few, compared to Karakka's many. Still..::

((Time Skip, One Minute))

:: He was about to order the firing on the Belfast when a young comm operator ran up to him. One of the KDF's - they rotated some people here for some seasoning -, and handed him a PADD. ::

oO They want to give them time to evacuate the Belfast!? .. wait, and t.. Oh. Oo ::Alan saw the logic. Even if they blew up the Belfast, the shrapnel would cause a massive impact, regardless. A warp core breach? That would contain sufficient energy to destroy both ships. ::

oO They may be idealists, but you have to respect the lengths they will go to try and hold up their ideals. Oo ::Alan tapped the panel again. ::

Hackett: Captain Hackett to the Governor. Governor, we've got a request to wait until we open fire so they can evacuate everyone- the Montreal is going to self destruct in an effort to destroy the Belfast without leaving any shrapnel. I'm requesting permission to have the orbital grid open fire on any shrapnel that reaches a certain distance automatically, and I need to send all freighters away from certain paths to do so.

Lawroc: Response

Hackett: We have.. five cleared ground based missle launchers. We're scrambling to focus on ones that will be facing the Belfast first. The KDF ships indicate they will also open fire once they evacuate the last of the hostages, and the Montreal's self destruction should destroy all of the shrapnel, but I'd like to be ready just in case.
