OOC: Takes place after Chythar departs the Montreal.

(( Skyfire’s Quarters, Golden Gates Hotel, Starbase 118 Ops & Tis’ Quarters, USS Gorkon ))

:: Skyfire was rather surprised to hear that he had a call, given the time. Then again, he remembered that life on a starbase was quite different from life on a starship. The time was not always a factor, but he could actually recieve calls here, as opposed to the Montreal where he didn’t have the best of luck. He put on a shirt and went over to his desk, surprised that Devlin didn’t wake up at the sound of the computer. ::

Computer: Call waiting.

Skyfire: Acknowledge.

:: As the screen flickered to life, he saw the image of a Trill upon it. The green carpeting visible behind her told him exactly where this call was coming from: the Gorkon. The ship where he had worn both red and teal. ::

Skyfire: Hello. To whom do I have the pleasure of speaking?

:: Carmen was caught looking down as a voice came through. She looked up to see a long haired male in his early 30s maybe. Not bad as a 1st impression, though this wasn’t a dating plan, this was being sociable.::

Tis: Ah, sorry about that, hello Sir. I’m Tis, Carmen Tis. And you are?

:: She flicked her hair away from her shoulder, making sure that her markings were “open” if not hopefully on show, so as he were aware of what she was, if not even partially. She was always conscious that she ought to be honest and open...sometimes that meant throwing out big signs, but it was something she had a habit of doing.::

Skyfire: Doctor Chythar Skyfire, lieutenant commander. Most recently of the USS Montreal. :: As he notices the spots, he smiled softly. :: Professional curiosity, joined or unjoined?

Tis: When you say joined? :: She tilted her head slightly, smiling with her eyes and trying hard to not make her lips do the same.:: I have just joined as Ensign to the medical crew, aboard the USS Gorkon. It’s been a heck of a start, but, now, on shore leave, I get to explore a little bit and find some bearings. :: She smiled.::

Tis: oO I am guessing he noticed my marks, we’ll see.Oo

:: Chythar noted how she somewhat dodged the question, but wasn’t going to press the issue. It was a first meeting, and he’d have plenty of time to learn about her in due course of time. This was, as it were, the icebreaker. He didn’t need to break all the ice at once, or he’d have no ground on which to stand. ::
Skyfire: I started in medical as well. Six years ago, now. I tried committing professional suicide my first day by attempting to relieve my department head of duty on account of injury. Didn’t take long before I emerged decorated and called a genius for things that I now have a hard time remembering I did.

:: Carmen giggled, raising her hand to her mouth, in an attempt to hide the fact. ::

Tis: Sorry sir, that wasn’t entirely meant. :: She forced a small cough.:: I’d love to come back to that if I may? But I have to ask, for  someone that is quite established, or at least it seems, what made you  join this communication program?

:: Carmen leaned forward slightly, pressing both hands into her lap and holding her thumbs tightly. She started to study all that was around the young man in front of her, rather than looking directly at him. That, would come. He seemed casually comfortable, like he was used to doing this, which created nerves within her that she hadn’t felt for a while. The room was pretty standard. Tidy. That was a plus. The desk appeared to have no decorations, merely a PADD. To his right, a teal duffel bag bearing the SFMA logo was visible against the wall behind him. ::

Tis: oO I wonder if that’s a dog back there...Oo

:: The man’s appearance was what he considered typical sleep-wear, a pair of teal SFMA shorts, and matching alumni t-shirt. The room seemed almost spartan, except for a flicker of movement from a canine’s tail in the background off to his left. ::

:: Chythar shrugged slightly and considered for a moment. He was sure that he’d gotten a start on it in the academy, but it was a distant memory now. The time in the alternate hell-verse had wreaked havoc on his mind, so he answered with the closest approximation he could remember. It may not have been entirely accurate, but it sounded correct. ::

Skyfire: I was completing my residency at University of Washington and had just graduated. After I got into Starfleet Medical, I heard about this cultural exchange program. The influence of my uncle’s Klingon coffee shop, called The Raktajino, was a major influence as well. What about you?

Tis: Can’t go wrong with a good dose of caffeine here and there. :: She smiled as she looked directly into his eyes.:: Well for me, a friend from within the Academy actually pushed me into it. She said I had to have a bit of a life away from studies and get to know others that weren’t on the same ship. She passed me the CCESFP details and, ::She gestured outwardly with her forearms and hands.:: here I am.

:: Carmen shifted a little in her seat as she tried to become a little more comfortable.::

:: Chythar nodded. Details like that were always important. Having friends in the academy was one of the most important things to get through the books, to help study for tests, and to just be social. He didn’t spend much time around people during his academy days, except one or two. Both Tobian and Ryoji had been immensely helpful in their own ways. ::

Skyfire: That’s completely understandable. I heard about it via my cultural adaptation specialist at the academy, actually.

Tis: I have to say sir, I think she was right with her recommendation. It’s certainly needed. Sometimes I think, it’s a nice come back to reality. Have you formed many friendships through this service? And any pointers for a rookie like me, just starting out?

:: Carmen hated that word “Rookie” and inwardly rolled her eyes at the fact that she’d actually used it so casually.:

Skyfire: The most important thing I can tell you is don’t let your work consume you. You’ll get a reputation for being a workaholic, and your department chief or your friends will make the oddball threats like ordering you out of sickbay or programming your replicators to give you crayons instead of food in order to ensure you have fun.

Tis: Of course, sure.:: Carmen noticed a small sense of concentration on the stranger’s face.:: Also, while you are at it Sir, how would you like me to address you for the moment? I’m unsure of the protocol for this kind of thing.

:: She felt stupid asking but at the same time, would rather ask and know, than be deemed as inappropriate. She also realised that the man she was speaking too, certainly hadn’t had it easy. Questions for another time.::

Skyfire: Chythar is fine. We’re off duty at the moment.

Tis: Oh I’m glad of that, thank you Chythar. :: She attempted to mimic the way he said his name to get it just right.:: Of course, Carmen is fine by me too, much rather that, than a constant :: She air quoted with her hands using all fingers, rather than the two standardly used.:: “Ensign”.

:: He nodded slightly. The usage of all the fingers with air quotes was a new experience for him, but it was something he supposed that could just be a facet of this particular Trill’s personality. So much about Trills was unknown to him. ::

Skyfire: I tend to agree with you. Most times I prefer the title of doctor over rank, which was especially true after my demotion to lieutenant. :: He paused and considered the statement for a moment. :: Stupid mistake on my part.

:: Carmen noted his downward tone on that last statement, realising that it may well have been a slip of the tongue. She certainly didn’t want to make him uncomfortable on a first comm’, so bypassed it, for now.::

Tis: I think quite honestly, I would prefer that too, but if a patent is in need, they can call me what they like till they are all fixed up.

:: Carmen hesitated, if only for a minute. Her eyes seems to not be looking at the screen, more of a brain working overtime look.::

Tis: Chythar, if I may…:: She now looked at him square into the face and shifted her hands from her lap, resting place, to being sat on them.:: I would not like to presume…:: She hesitated again with a small squirm and couldn’t believe why she was so worried, asking a medical officer, of all people, such a simple question.::..are you human? I only ask, as you mentioned your Uncle’s coffee shop.

:: That was a justifiable question, given that he had no particular identifying features to mark him as another race. As a human with weird gifts, he felt a need to at least explain he wasn’t an average human because of his abilities. ::

Skyfire: Yes, I am. A weird one, at that. What I mean is I have telepathic and empathic abilities, which is unusual for a human with no reader ancestry. Even more unusual in my case is that such gifts were obtained by freakish accidents while in performance of my duties as a medical officer.

:: Carmen was worried about staring too hard at the character in front of her. She quickly forced a pondering look upon her face.::

Tis: What can I say to that? A unique specimen indeed you are Chythar.

:: Inwardly Carmen was somersaulting in her gut with excitement and, was so hoping it wouldn’t show on her face, that she got to speak to someone with similar abilities, even if hers were only slight.::

Tis: I see the bag just there, :: She indicated the direction with her head, as her body remained almost rigid still.:: a hobby of yours?

Tis: oO Smile woman smile!Oo

:: Chythar glanced around and realized he left his chainmail bag sitting next to him. He smiled softly as he picked it up and brought it closer to the terminal for her to see. It was something he was working on for no real reason, but just out of boredom. The bag itself had a simple leather string, was round in shape and could probably hold a pound of dice, silver in color. ::

Skyfire: Yes. Chainmail. It’s an art form. This is supposed to be a pouch for my partner, who is stationed aboard the Constitution. What sort of hobbies do you enjoy?

Tis: Chainmail ah? That’s a new one to my ears. Intricate work I am guessing? :: She smiled genuinely at him. The same old same old bored her. Knowing that someone was involved in something so different, peaked her interest somewhat.:: What got you into that?  One sec. : She raised a finger to him and got up. She steadily walked to the other end of the room, and then over to the side, carrying something in her arms, as she sat down, back in front of the screen.:: For me, :: She held up her 2 small daggers.:: the Hrisal & the Jem'Hadar Shock blade training. Never had to use them and honestly, unsure if I could, but that’s by and by. :: She placed them on the table in front of her before holding up the other item for him to see.:: Also, I dabble with these a little. ::  as she showed him one of her Elanin singing stones. :: There are a few other bits, but I won’t bore you with them all at once Sir.

:: Carmen looked shocked, all wide-eyed, with brow raised.::

Tis: Sorry, I meant Chythar.

:: She coyly smiled up at him with just her eyes as her head hung low, feeling sorry for herself in that moment. She slowly got up, collected the daggers and made the trip around the room once more, coming back with empty hands.::

:: CD nodded slightly in appreciation. He was considering dabbling in music eventually, given his liking for Klingon opera, although he could never quite master the accent on some of the notes. Perhaps he should stick to Terran melodies. ::

Tis: I guess I ought to leave you in peace for now. Afterall, this is my 1st day of leave and I really ought to seek my way around this ship. But I’d like to call again if I may? I am pleased we matched.

Tis: oO Hope he’s okay with the match too.Oo

Skyfire: First day of leaves are important. Take your time, and remember to hang out with your colleagues. It will do wonders towards building a relationship with them. I would be delighted to talk to you again.

:: Carmen felt her stomach jolt slightly.::

Tis: In that case Chythar…:: She gave a slight nod and her trademark beam of teeth.:: I thank you and bid you a good day.

Skyfire: You’re welcome. Enjoy your leave, Carmen.

::Carmen had a twinkle as she closed the comm’s and felt her body go limp, now the comradery was over.::
