Captain Oddas Aria: Awards and Promotion

With Shayne next to her she placed the PADD with the transfer order down on the encounter, then drew in a breath, taking in the smell of the food, drink, and wood.  

Oddas: :: to the crowd:: Mister Shayne has served as XO now for a long time, he has worked hard, earned the respect of the crew, and mine as well.  He is trusted, steady, and works tirelessly for all of us.  For those reasons and more, it is my great pleasure to promote him to Commander, with all the rights - and more importantly - the responsibilities thereto.  

Aria picked up the first box from the Awards lined up and opened it displaying a solid silver pip.  Turning to the newly minted Commander she carefully removed the hollow pip and replaced it with the solid counterpart.

Oddas: Congratulations Commander, and Good Luck.

She gave him a small smile and led the crew in a round of applause.

Shayne: Response

Oddas: A new ship, and a larger crew, poses certain challenges and organizational needs, chief among them is the need for a Second Officer.  Let it be known that on this date Lt. Commander Collins, in addition to being a great Chief Science Officer, is designated the Second Officer for the USS Juneau.  I know he will carry on with the duties and the responsibilities of the position with the same diligence and diligence he carries on his existing position.

Shayne: Response

She waited for the crew to settle down a bit, thinking a bit about her own career and wondering, not for the first time, how it had come to this - people looking to her of all people for leadership and an example of leadership.  She smiled.

Oddas: During our last mission the Crew of the Eagle worked diligently with others, people they had just met, to secure and repair the Ring.  With the hope the Acen would become allies and to secure the technological wonder.  Because of their efforts, the crew of the Eagle has been awarded the Joint Meritorious Effort ribbon; additionally, the crew of the Eagle has been awarded the First Contact Ribbon.

Shayne: Response

Oddas: Additionally, the Away Team has been awarded the Explorer's Ribbon as they provided us the first look at what the surface looks like, giving us insight into the composition of the ring and some of its Inhabitants.

And they had, they had brought back enough information to keep Archeologists, Anthropologists, and scores of other specialists busy for years.  Their work had not only done a lot to save the Ring, but also an insight into the Villagers and how they fit into the Ecosystem.

Shayne: Response

The faces of the crew looking at her expectantly - and she took a deep breath.  

Oddas: Can Mister Waters and Commander Fiorr approach?  :: she paused to let them begin making their way through the crowd:: During the course of the mission Commander Shayne performed a heroic, sprint shall we say, to save people he had just met from imminent death.  Similarly, Mister Waters and Mister Fiorr performed a heroic action - piloting the Eagle out of danger when disabled and keeping the ship safe overall.  To the three of them I am happy to award them the Legion of Merit.

As the awards were presented she shook each of their hands.

Waters/Fiorr: Response

She joined into the applause, the dorsal side of her hand hitting the palm and she smiled.  The impact of her hand on the others punctuating her pride and allowing her a moment to collect her thoughts again.

oO That food smells delicious. Oo

And it did, but that was the wrong thought to have.

Oddas: Mister Strong?  :: she nodded in the other woman's direction in the crowd:: While on the surface, Mister Strong worked to save the inhabitants of the Villagers, but in particular worked to save the life of inhabitants who had been hurt through mining operations and did so without imparting knowledge of her true origins unnecessarily.  Because of her work, she is awarded the Lifesaving Ribbon.

She shook the woman's hand and placed the ribbon and box in her hand, offering her a smile of gratitude.

Strong/Shayne: Response

Oddas: Like many of our missions the need for innovation on this mission was high, and expected.  The said, Mister Collins, Kano, Fiorr, and Serinus:: she motioned for them to join her at the front of the room:: These four worked diligently, finding an alternative power source for the Acens, providing them a way to save face and to not need to insist on the Ring's malfunctioning systems.

Collins/Kano/Fiorr/Serinus: Response

After the awards were passed out she shook each of their hands and offered them a 'thank you'.

Oddas: Finally, Mister Kano, Delri'ise, :: motioning them to approach:: and:: half mumbling:: the Captain, have been awarded the Diplomacy Ribbon, for solving the conflict with the Acens without resorting to violence and hopefully leading to more amicable relations between us in the future.

Shayne: Response

She shook each of the hands and offered them a smile, and 'congratulations'.

Kano/Delri'ise: Response

Oddas: A mentor of mine once told me Starfleet has ceremonies for everything important, the good, the bad, everything in between.  He also said we have ceremonies because they happen often and its important to remember the events that bind us.  Looking out at the crew I agree, it's important and you make me proud.  As we move onto the Juneau I know we will continue to uphold our values, showing what the best of Starfleet is and proving the need for many more ceremonies.  :: pause :: Now, I believe Mr. Serinus has a few words he would like to say.

She led the crew in another round of applause as the Security Officer approached the front.  She made her way back to her drink, taking another sip and listening as the crew gave the Lieutenant their attention.
