(( Ready Room ))

::She raised her eyebrows, shaking her head as she answered his question.::

Reynolds: ::Dryly,:: Believe it or not, I don't entirely rely on the judgement of a nurse when it comes to choosing my command staff.

:: CD's brow furrowed in contemplation. He'd only worn the red shirt thus far when he was at the academy administering the final tests, and had only been given temporary command of a starship once under Captain Kells. It took him a long few moments to process the information before nodding slowly. ::

Skyfire: Of course not. We've served together before, as well. :: He paused thoughtfully, as though remembering something he brought to Kells' attention only a few months ago. ::. Then...before I replicate myself a red shirt, there is something you should know.

::She nodded, gesturing toward him with an open palm, indicating that he should continue.::

Skyfire: Something's up with my gift. Empathy only at the moment. Tests are pending.

Reynolds: As long as you're cleared and fit for duty, that's not something I'm concerned about. ::She paused, watching him.:: The job's yours, if you want it.

:: The doctor nodded and helped himself to a bite of his bagel. True, he had the necessary experience, provided by his tours on Garuda and Invicta. He’d served on numerous posts, done several academy runs, taken the centre chair on a classified mission to investigate the Va-Wreth, and was damned good at his job. All of his jobs, which indicated that Starfleet made someone more than the sum of their experiences. After a few bites, he gave his answer. ::

Skyfire: :: nodding slowly. :: I accept.

Reynolds: Good. Technically you'll step into the post straight away, but since we're about to take some shore leave we'll keep any work from hitting your new desk for now. Do you have any plans?

:: Plans? Him? Correspondence, medical clearance to be cleared for duty aboard the ship, oh, and perhaps those tests that Commander Tam mentioned...and of course, time on the holodeck with Devlin. As he considered the possibilities of his shore leave, he managed a shake of the head in between bites. Once he finished swallowing his mouthful of tastiness, he answered. ::

Skyfire: Nothing besides the usual letters, medical stuff to make sure I'm fit for duty, maybe a bit of unpacking, and dog-walking. Why?

::There was a wry turn to her answering smile.::

Reynolds: Let's just say that bitter experience has taught me to make the most of any down time.

:: He nodded slightly, knowing that any downtime he had was likely to be taken up by his usual: counselling appointments, medical tests, dog-walking, and, in this case, unpacking. He knew how to make use of it, but not at all wisely. Half of his last shore leave on Invicta was spent in Ris' office, a quarter of it  in Kells’ office, and the rest in his own office. Now, he had no CMO office but was expected to move into a new one at some point in the near future. ::

Skyfire:  I’ll see if I can make better use of it this time.

Reynolds: I'd recommend it. Without wanting to sound like I'm trying to scare you, the pressure's going to be much more intense. You need to make sure you take care of yourself.

:: Ah yes, the worst thing that a doctor wants to hear. Even still, it was funny in a sort of “I use that line often” kind of way, though he was unsuccessful at hiding his words behind a smile of neutrality. ::

Skyfire: Got it. :: He waited for a moment to see if there would be anything else as he munched the last of his bagel. ::

Reynolds: ::She shot him a sly look.:: I hope so. Else I might have to take a page out of one of my former CO's book, and have security escort you directly to some fun and relaxation.

:: He couldn't help but chuckle at that one. Good thing he wasn't nibbling bagel or drinking coffee at that moment. ::

Skyfire: Wouldn't be the first time. I was actually ordered out of sickbay for naps and relaxation multiple times aboard my various postings.

Reynolds: Consider yourself on notice, then. ::She softened the words with a small grin.:: Unless there's anything I can do for you, I'll let you get back to your leave.

:: He wondered idly if they were on a first name basis yet, though in the back of his mind he couldn't bring himself to ask such a question. The tone was set by the CO, and until otherwise noted he’d continue to keep it professional. ::

Skyfire: Nothing else. It will be my privilege to serve with you, Captain. :: and offered his hand for a Terran handshake. ::

::She declined the handshake with a quick shake of her head. A touch-telepath, she tried to avoid casual skin contact.::

Reynolds: Hopefully you'll still feel that way in a couple of missions. Enjoy your leave, Commander.

Skyfire:  Let’s hope so. You get some rest too, Captain.

:: His hand retracted and retrieved his dishes, the bagel now depleted and the coffee cup half full. The plate he put into the replicator and pressed a few buttons as the dish dissolved into its component molecules once again and he headed out the door. ::

(( Bridge, just outside the Ready Room ))

:: As he stood there, Chythar began to feel the weight of command. All those training sessions he’d served as an FO, the long and yet brief instance on the Garuda where he was in charge, and this last mission where he came aboard and had to work at not usurping the authority of the other teal-collared commander, who by the logic of “he was here first” was his superior. Now, it all changed. He had another sip of his coffee as he headed to the turbolift and back to his room, determined to get some letter writing done before anything *else* distracted him. ::
