(( Ayiana’s Quarters, USS Gorkon ))

:: Talking with Cory had been more unnerving than Ayiana expected. She had never been particularly fond of discussing her emotions with people, especially someone she was close to. And most recently, the term “close” had taken on a new meaning in regards to Cory. Ayiana, Cory, and Petra had been serving together for years; the trio had transferred to the Gorkon together from the Victory; Petra even asked Ayiana to be her Maid of Honor at their wedding. Now, after what she and Cory experienced in the Dream, Ayiana wasn’t sure how she felt. There was the nagging feeling that what she felt for Cory in there was rooted in some real emotions, and not a fabrication of the artificial reality. ::

:: Heartbreakingly, Ayiana informed Cory that she planned to keep her distance from him for a while, at least until she could sort out her true emotions. The past few days had seen Ayiana get acclimated to her new role as Research Coordinator for the task force. A part of her regretted losing her First Officer role, but Admiral Reynolds had made a good point. She had had difficulty managing the workload, but more importantly was her anger issues. She had only made passing visits to counselors in the past, but now she was determined to get a handle on it. ::

:: At the moment, Ayiana was off-duty, and she wanted to be alone with her thoughts. Thus, she was in her quarters, working on her beloved tricorder. She had some 20th century Earth music blaring through her quarters - at the moment, it was “Master of Puppets” by Metallica. Ayiana was sitting on her couch, tapping her foot and nodding her head to the beat, idly tapping away at her tricorder. Doing some mechanical tinkering always calmed her down and let her mind wander. Since she was no longer running the science department, she had been using her tricorder less-and-less. But Ayiana wanted to make sure it stayed up-to-date with hardware and software. A new version of its custom operating system had come out, as had numerous updates to the myriad programs installed on it. Plus, it was fun. ::

:: After upgrading some of the interior hardware, Ayiana closed the tricorder back up and turned it on. Moments later, the initialization and standby screen appeared. She entered her fingerprint and DNA to log in. Ayiana played around with some of the programs, making sure they were working. She started up a full-spectrum EM scan, letting the tricorder run a diagnostic. She set her tricorder down on the coffee table as she sat back and listened to her music. ::

oO The Admiral is right. I need to get this anger thing under control. But damn, I hate counselors! I saw enough after my Joining. Maybe I should also consider Command training from the Academy--! Oo

:: Ayiana’s tricorder beeped, indicating it was done. She picked it up to check the diagnostic. The results were surprising. The new scanner was more sensitive, along with new algorithms. She didn’t expect it to pick up anything out of the ordinary. Except it did. ::

oO What the hell? Oo

:: During its scan, the tricorder picked up a microsecond transmission burst on a very unusual frequency - from inside her quarters. She stared at the results; it must have been a mistake, so Ayiana ran the diagnostic again. As it completed, it returned a normal result. ::

oO That’s weird. Oo

:: Still, she couldn’t shake the feeling that the first scan was right. Ayiana picked up her tricorder to start a deep scan of the room. She had barely started, scanning the statue on her coffee table, when the tricorder beeped incessantly. The statue was a favorite of her’s - a representation of Lessia, the ancient Trill goddess of knowledge and wisdom. Ayiana was atheistic, but she had a fascination with ancient cultures, plus the statue reminded her of her one true passion in life - science and knowledge. ::

:: With the tricorder still beeping, Ayiana returned her thoughts to the matter at hand. She closed her tricorder and set it on the table. Carefully, she picked up the heavy stone statue in both hands, examining it closely. There! Nudged in a crevice was an object, distinctly contrasting from the stone around it - a square less than half the size of her pinky fingernail. If she wasn’t suspicious, it could easily have been mistaken for some stray fiber or lint. Ayiana gently pulled it from the crevice, then put the statue back down. ::

oO What the hell is this?! A listening bug?! Oo

:: A tricorder scan confirmed it. The object was a complex device consisting of microcircuitry and a transmitter. What was it doing in her quarters; and more importantly, were there more? Ayiana looked around her room nervously. Making sure the device was deactivated, she got up and headed for the door. She had only one idea. ::

:: Once she was in the corridor, Ayiana tapped her combadge nervously, staring at the tiny device in between her fingers. ::

Sevo: =/\= Sevo to Admiral Reynolds. =/\=

Reynolds: =/\= Response =/\=

Sevo: =/\= Sir, can you meet me in waste extraction room four as soon as possible? =/\=

Reynolds: =/\= Response =/\=

Sevo: =/\= I’d...rather not discuss it over an open channel. Oh! And can you bring Commander Vondaryan? =/\=

Reynolds: =/\= Response =/\=
