to UFOP: StarBase 118: USS Gorkon
((Cargo Bay, Deck Six, USS Gorkon))

::Deep in the dark, dark hallowed ground of the deck six Cargo Bay, behind the large resource containers and below the second-floor gangway, a lonely light flickered on a table, casting shady light onto the those sitting around. Of course, it was a simulated candle, as fire and space don't usually mix well together, but this is digressing from the point slightly. The mood was dark. Eerie, almost.::

Johns: Right, has everyone got their character sheet?

Peek: I haven't.

::A collective groan rippled through the gathered party as the Engineering Yeoman raised his hand, eyes darting from a momentary stupor caused by the candle.::

Johns: Well, what do you want to be? I've got some already generated, somewhere... ::He tapped through his PADD.:: Ahh, here we go. You can be the Lead Guitarist for a Heavy Metal band called "Harmonial Spasm". Charisma is sixteen but your intelligence is only three.

::Another hand raised from the encompassing darkness, the babyface of Sen Baidan, Communications Specialist, his happiness usually the reason they managed to get through a session at all.::

Baidan: I will have them. My sixth level Accountant is becoming lifeless and succumbing to rely on recreational narcotics to get through the working day. ::All said with a happy smile on his face.:: What is their name and designation?

Johns: "Maroon Thunder". She's fourth-level but has an experience multiplier if you use the axe-guitar power moves. You have the ability to Severely Deafen an enemy on a critical roll.

::Baidan nodded and picked up his own PADD, receiving the character sheet from Chris. Meanwhile, Robert was busy trying to touch the simulated-candle flame with his fingers, receiving a stern look from Vorin, their stoic Vulcan Scientist, who leaned into view.::

Vorin: I have my character prepared, Petty Officer.

Johns: It's Chris, Vorin. Just Chris. ::He didn't look up from his PADD, sighing a little.:: Who you playing this time?

::Their Vulcan cleared his throat, crossed one leg over the other, and consulted his PADD.::

Vorin: I will be assuming the role of "Stryker McRico". A retired war veteran whom recently fed wandering deer and lifted the trunks of felled trees. He is seeking revenge for the merciless killing of said deer by foreign narcotics dealers.

Johns: And you're cool with that?

Vorin: His strength is eighteen and he is impervious to projectiles. I am most agreeable.

Johns: Excellent. Peek, we still need one for you.

::Robert looked up, like a startled rabbit in the headlights of oncoming traffic and shifted uncomfortably on his seat as Chris flipped through the created characters in his hatchery.::

Johns: How about...  Professor Mork? An evil educator recently fired from his profession of... ::He consulted the PADD again.:: ...Molecular Mentalism, Sorcerous Physics and Spiritual Microbiology. You get a plus-one bonus to your wisdom per throw if you twiddle with your glasses, but your "Hold on Existence" is severely hampered when you sneeze.

::The description seemed to fly over Robert's head but he nodded all the same, receiving the sheet on his PADD and started looking through the biography.::

Johns: I'll use my regular. Grandfather Ted. Plucky and resourceful. He's got a car too. Special abilities are "Perfect Aim" with his golf-club come walking stick, and "Cantankerous Bore" when he tries to explain complex military stories to civilians. ::He clapped his hands together.:: Right, that's sorted. Now, what are we playing for?

::Since they were no longer Over There, playing for ration cards seemed a little redundant so their selection of prizes had dramatically turned for the strange. Vorin raised his hand.::

Vorin: I have a holo-novel. "The Ferengi Who Stole a White Dwarf". A preposterous tale of romance and treachery, however, it is quite entertaining.

Johns: Excellent. I've got a book of carpeting specimens from twentieth-century Earth. ::He whacked the huge book down onto the table, receiving a sequence of oohs and ahhs from the gathered group.:: Baidan?

Baidan: A replicated three-dimensional algorithmic puzzle. ::He placed the multi-coloured block onto the edge of the table.:: An amusing distraction.

Johns: Nice. ::Then, turned his attention to the last at the table.:: Peek?

Peek: I umm... I don't... A week of paperwork?

::Each other resident of the table blinked for a solid moment, nobody leaping to take him up on his offer, as a week of Peek's paperwork meant having to do it all again.::

Johns: Anything else?

::Robert looked down sheepishly at the table for a few moments before a lightbulb dinged in his head.::

Peek: Cadet Worthington told me a rumour about the Chief of Security.

::Chris nodded his head approvingly - rumours tended to be like currency anyway, so that was good enough for him.::

Johns: Great, that's characters and prizes done. Onto the scenario.

::He adjusted himself in his seat, spreading out the paper-thin reactive sheet over the table. It lit up with the characters down one side, complete with inventory, and highlighted where they were starting their playthrough. "TechnoNation - Calibrated for You!" momentarily displayed in the centre.::

Johns: We've been captured by dictatorial authority figures working for the BigCompany CEO, third-class, and held in an abandoned warehouse...
