OOC: All PCs have been invited to this!
(( Holodeck 42, Starbase 118 ))
::The program was already running when the first guests began to arrive. The heavy-duty doors of the holodeck drew apart with a familiar growl, warmth spilling out of the simulated environment within. The sun beat down from a clear summer sky, and the scent of freshly-cut grass and garden flowers carried on a soothing breeze.
::Ahead, colourful tents and marquees littered a well-tended village green. One large marquee contained a bar, the holographic staff full of smiles and ready to serve their new customers. Other tents had food stalls; cakes and baked goods, fresh fruit and salads, barbecued meats and vegetables, and more -- enough to cater for just about anyone's tastes.
::There were games to be played as well: a coconut shy, hoopla, ball in the bucket, and a shooting gallery were just a few that could be spied on approach, with even more tucked away in the less visible tents. There was even a fortune teller, the entrance to the tent shrouded with gauzy fabrics in rich colours.
::A marquee with a raised stage and open sides had been erected the centre, cheery pennants fluttering on the edge of its roof. Inside, a traditional folk band was playing, their music a perfect complement to the merry mood.
::It was in front of this tent that Nugra stood, waiting to conduct one last ceremony for his crew. Beside him stood the much less impressive form of Captain Quinn Reynolds, clad in a plain white shirt, jeans and pair of sandals. ::
:: Nugra admired the simulation around him, always amazed by how the holodeck looked so real and it helped sooth the ache of leaving his crew to see the few that had arrived happy and looking forward to their new adventure. As much as the Gorn had tried to be informal, he could not break himself down to put on his civilian clothes, but he had opted for the Captain’s vest to give an air of informality. Though he technically did not wear red anymore, he wanted to remain a familiar image to his crew one last time. ::
Nugra: I am very impressed with your choice of surroundings, Captain Reynolds, where is this from?
Reynolds: The databanks? ::She shot him a faint grin.:: Honestly, I'm not sure. Late twentieth century Earth, I think.
Nugra: I have only been able to visit Earth twice, I am impressed with the planet’s range of biomes. ::changing subject:: I know that we like to keep work outside of the holodeck, but I just wanted to let you know that they finished keying over all the security codes from my crew over to you. I am very happy that they have you as their captain.
Reynolds: I'll make sure to take care of them for you. ::She nodded.:: I'm sure they'll do us both proud.
::They waited until the officers had all arrived. Nugra stood by the long table filled with meats, vegetables, and other delicacies and spoke loudly so those around him could hear. One thing about the choice in program, it was lively. ::
Nugra: May I have everybody's attention? Before we start giving out the awards that crew have earned, I would like to formally introduce you all to the esteemed Captain Quinn Reynolds, our guest of honor for the Victory celebration.
::She nodded, and though her smile was small, it was most certainly genuine.::
Reynolds: Thank you, Captain. I'm pleased to be here.
Nugra: To start, May I please have Lieutenant JG Janel Tarna to please come forward.
:: The Gorn watched as the young Trill who had gone through so much since his arrival to the Victory and smiled at the man as he stopped in front of him. ::
Nugra: Mister Tarna, to put it simply, you have been through hell since your arrival on the Victory. Your capture by Sicarius agents and subsequent torture is something that only few have survived. It shows me and the rest of starfleet that deep down, there is an iron core of perseverance that must be reckoned with by any of those who challenge you. Because of your injuries while on Temlai, I would like to award you three ribbons. :: Retrieving the first from an aid that brings it up. :: The first is the Purple heart, for your critical injuries that you received at the hands of our enemies, the second is the prisoner of war ribbon for being captured and held in such deplorable conditions. The last is the silver lifesaving ribbon, for your actions in saving the lives of Sergeant Gwinnett. These have been a long time coming and I thank you for being there for your people when they needed it the most.
Tarna: response
:: The Gorn allowed the applause to die down before he continued. It seems as if Tarna was going to step back, but Nugra raised his hand to stop him. ::
Nugra: There is one more, Lieutenant Tarna. You may have not known how much danger you were in when you confronted my daughter Iria, unarmed. You not only talked her down from hurting anybody, you got her to trust you, a feat that only one other person has ever been able to do. Because of your actions in saving the life of my daughter and of those of the crew who would have suredly been hurt or killed, I award you the Captain's Commendation for that bravery. Congratulations!
Tarna: response
:: With that, he finally let the Trill return to where he had come from. The young man had a lot of potential and it was sad that the Gorn could not see him rise from the ashes of what Janel was going through now. ::
Nugra: Will Ensign Bren please come forward.
:: Before the ceremony had begun, Nugra had made it a point to research the specie that he did not recognize, it was a new addition to the Federation called a Worene and much of their people’s history was close to his own. In a way, Bren and he shared a kinship of hunters. ::
Nugra: Mister Bren, The Victory was able to come home because you came up with the graviton web that allowed us to target the Tholian vessel while amidst a faraday dampening field. This out of the box thinking is what Starfleet wants and I am proud to award you the Innovation in Science ribbon for your unique and clever solution to our predicament. Congratulations!
Bren: response
:: There was only one more ribbon to give out and he looked through the audience to spot the three people who had earned it. ::
Nugra: Misters Tarna, Rosek, and Wilde. Please come forward.
:: Once they were in front, Nugra drew out the black and red ribbon and spoke as he pinned it on them. ::
Nugra: Because of your actions in dealing with the radiation exposure our civilians were faced with, your selfless effort to heal them at the peril of your own life and coming up with a cure for the unknown effects, I would like to award you the Medical Science Ribbon. Congratulations!
Tarna: response, if any.
Wilde: response, if any.
Rosek: response, if any.
:: Once the applause quieted down again, Nugra gave a faint smile to all the familiar faces in the crowd. This part was going to be the hardest for him. ::
Nugra: Before we end this ceremony for a wonderful party that Captain Reynolds has setup for you, I do have an announcement to make. As of today, I am stepping down from command of the USS Victory. That is why many of you have begun receiving transfer orders to a new vessel. I wanted to say to you all that I have found that serving with you has been a highlight of my life and leaving puts a large hole in my soul. I ask you to serve your future captain with the duty and loyalty that you have shown me.
Reynolds: As some of you may already know, the bulk of the Victory crew will be transferring to the USS Gorkon, Starfleet's newest Sovereign class starship. We'll also be joined by officers and crew transferring in from other ships and installations, and I've invited them to join us here, to give us all a chance to get acquainted.
::She gestured to the village fête around them.::
Reynolds: So please, enjoy yourselves. There's plenty to do and see, and plenty to enjoy with others. I know that I and your new first officer, Commander Chen, are looking forward to meeting you all, so please don't be afraid to come and say hello.
Nugra: To all of you, Fight for duty and honor :: Saluting:: Dismissed.
