to Gorkon (IC)
((Meanwhile, in Admiral Sotek's office…))

Sotek: That was most disagreeable.

::Isioma smiled. Only a Vulcan would describe weathering the fury of Hurricane Reynolds as "disagreeable".::

Uzoamaka: Actually, Admiral, that was a good sign.

::In her time working with him, Izzy had come to learn that Sotek wasn't an unkind man, nor an unreasonable one. But he was Vulcan, and the mental and emotional recovery of the Gorkon crew was not something he could easily understand or empathise with.::

Sotek: You will explain.

::He moved toward his desk and took his seat, a tiny nod of the head indicating that he was inviting her to sit in the chair opposite. She did just that, perching on the edge, legs crossed.::

Uzoamaka: When the captain first returned, she had emotionally shut down. It was a survival mechanism; not feeling was the only way she could cope with her experiences while continuing to command the Gorkon. This… outburst means that she's beginning to process her feelings.

Sotek: I do not comprehend why anger is among those feelings.

Uzoamaka: Because she's right, sir. We gave up on them. ::She shook her head, anticipating his reaction.:: I'm not debating whether that was the right or wrong decision to make, but it is hard for many of them to accept, given what they've been through. Then we have the fact that the reasons that they *did* get home are currently in custody for doing it…

Sotek: You do not agree with their incarceration.

Uzoamaka: Well… ::She picked her words carefully.:: From a mental health standpoint, no. The Gorkon crew have a huge amount to process already. There's a lot of anger, a lot of grief, survivor's guilt, and so forth. Knowing that their rescuers are in prison is another stick to beat themselves with.

::The Admiral quirked a very Vulcan eyebrow at her, evidently skeptical of that explanation.::

Sotek: They are not responsible for those actions .

Uzoamaka: But nonetheless, many feel guilty about it. It was done for them. And in many cases, these are family and loved ones -- people who would be… useful, if not vital, to the healing process -- and they're locked away. Possibly for a very long time.

::Sotek gave her a very long, thoughtful look before he replied.::

Sotek: Then your professional opinion is that the release of those individuals would be of… substantial benefit to the survivors of the Gorkon.

Uzoamaka: Yes, I suppose it is. ::She smiled, looking curiously at the Vulcan.:: Are you..?

::She trailed off, not sure how to formulate the question. Sotek raised a haughty eyebrow, ::

Sotek: It is an observation, Lieutenant. Nothing more.

Uzoamaka: ::She smiled.:: Of course, sir.

::He thought for a moment, still as a statue.

Sotek: Attend to the preparations for the celebration. ::He glanced at her out of the corner of his eyes.:: And provide a report on your recommendations regarding what further support the crew of the Gorkon will need in their recoveries. ::A pause, and then,:: You are dismissed, Lieutenant.

::She nodded to him, rising from her seat in a smooth, elegant motion, and made her way toward the office door. A report stating that the release of the Yarahla renegades would be of significant benefit to the survivors of the Gorkon? That she could do.::
