oO Carthisis, that's the word in Standard. Oo

:: She had been a sense of carthisis ever since the mission had started.   The immediate people around her could be trusted to handle the large decisions and she could concentrate on some engineering.  Even with the current threat, she felt at home.  It was interesting.

She led them to a hatch, that was opened.  It was not something a member of Starfleet would have left open.  Open hatches invited accidents and aboard ship, you didn't want to lose life to an accident when there were other unknown hazards in space.  She frowned and began leading the way up the ladder. ::

Jorey: ::Climbing the ladder.:: So, what are we thinking? My guess is Romulan. A make-shift listening post maybe.

Pavlova: My money is on Syndicate, maybe with a few TFM holdouts who don’t like the new order.

Oddas: I try to be a follower of Bintor  - he postulated it was not a good idea to jump to conclusions unless you have to, or unless you have all the information.

:: She chuckled.  Bintor Zavin was actually an old fable, told to school-age children about a fisherman who saw a giant b'ath rayl in the water and thought it was a sea monster come to devour the world.  He proceeded to sell all of his possessions and went far and wide telling all who would listen it was the end of the world, hoping to stay ahead of the sea monster.  He died outside of Aria's hometown of Hathon, broke, old, sick, and within sight of several b'ath rayl hanging in the marketplace, for sale, as food.

History was not kind to Bintor.

They came to the top of the ladder and Aria pulled herself up, and sat on the ledge.  The hatch at the top, like the one near the bottom, was open.  Like the opening near the bottom, it was dark.  Unlike the bottom, she could hear talking, quietly, as if it was coming from down the hall away from the hatch.  The voices were between them and the control room.

She looked to her comrades, then cupped her hand around her ear, indicating she heard something, then pointing toward her mouth, then down the hallway.

Irina and Jorey both made motions, and she supposed some officers, especially Command Officers, might take some take umbrage at being tasked to being pushed past, she did not.  Today it was part of the carthisis, in general, it was the fact she absolutely believed in the best tool for the job, and she was not the job for sneaking up on unknowns. ::

Pavlova/Jorey: Responses

:: She nodded and made her way into the tunnel behind them, phaser rifle drawn, tricorder out, but silenced.  As she got closer she could hear the voices more clearly.  Once definitely sounded Laudean, the other ... something else, maybe Nausican, or something else.  The corridor was only lit by emergency power, which meant as it curved to the right it got darker. ::

Pavlova/Jorey: Response

:: Suddenly, it seemed as if there was phaser fire coming from somewhere. ::
