Zaekia: You are an officer with a significant amount of potential. Do you have any career aspirations? Do you see yourself as taking on more responsibility in the department? Taking further, speciality training courses? Cross training? Anything else?
::Renos had nir own plans and schemes in mind about the future of this officer, about the opportunities an officer of his calibre should receive. First, it was only prudent to ask what it was he himself was interested in. As Akinor asked the innocent, even rote question, they gave nothing away about what was on their minds. This was just one of many typical questions posed at this type of evaluation.::
Thoran: Well one day sir, I hope to make Department Head as well as complete the Bridge Officer’s Test. After that I could not say. With regards to further training, my recent experience in sickbay taught me that some further basic engineering training would be immensely beneficial. ::When he paused, the command officers waited to see whether he had anything more to add.:: In the future I would like to become a certified security and tactical instructor. Presuming I have the ability, I also aim to take part in the Advanced Tactical Training course.
::Akinor respected and appreciated individuals with a certain amount of ambition. It was his own ambition and desire to carve out a name for himself that had led him down the path less travelled - for a Kalean anyway. He was the first Kalean in Starfleet and the first to achieve captaincy and those two things counted for something back home. His people were incredibly driven and taught that the most important thing is the pursuit of knowledge and betterment of your house. Before he had joined Starfleet he was just another Zaekia - those had came before him had the same training, but experience on their side. He aspired to not just be like them but to become better. Meanwhile, those who came after him were constantly chasing his tails, motivating him to stay one step ahead and keep moving forward. Being in Starfleet was like playing a whole new game. People knew who he was now, because he was out here doing something no one else had done.::
Zaekia: We can certainly put you forward for additional training. The distance learning program the Academy offers is second to none. Sometimes I like to take courses just to expand my mind and… well that’s a story for another day.
Renos: More to the point, we can adjust your duty shifts to allocate a portion of time towards training.
Zaekia: As to the rest, that brings me to another matter we wanted to discuss. There’s a vacancy we’d like to offer you. Since Lieutenant Thillia Zh'vothron was badly injured during the difficult encounter, she is unable to resume her duties. It could be a few months before she is fully rehabilitated. We would like you to step in as acting chief of security and tactical.

::Given he had just expressed a desire to take on greater roles, Akinor was in no way surprised to see him snap up the opportunity. He beamed at the officer who had impressed him so considerably on the bridge. This officer offered measured responses, tailored to the situation, he had shown diplomatic ability and that he could work well with others when they had talked the distraught disease victim out of murder. A great security officer had a lot more in their toolkit than their phaser and knife. He was going to do just fine. His grin became just a touch wider as he pulled open the drawer once again. There was still a rosewood box in there and one last surprise.::

There is one more thing… ::Pausing dramatically for effect:: Though you’ve not been with us long, you’ve demonstrated exactly the sort of qualities that make strong, inspirational leaders. I hereby promote you to the rank of Lieutenant for your exemplary service. Congratulations.
