Hello All,

Just joined Bike San Diego ………….

Mission: To establish San Diego as a world-class bicycling city by promoting everyday riding. We do this by advocating for and promoting world-class bicycling infrastructure that contributes toward an aesthetic, livable urban environment.

Visit us online at: BikeSD.org     http://bikesd.org/join/

Looks like a worthy cause.

What do you think?

Cheers,

Neal

I differ. Bike San Diego's leader, a woman who goes by the name of Sam,
broadcasts vociferous harangues conveying the least reasonable of the
populist bicycling superstitions. I know from personal experience.

Dear John:

The least reasonable of the "populist bicycling superstitions" regard
the imperative to ride against traffic and the safety enhancements
gained when riding at night if you don't use lights, reflectors, etc. I
don't recall Sam ever militating for either of those positions.

I regard the belief that wrong-way cycling is safer to be a purely
individual superstition; I know of no organization that so argues. I
know of no individuals who argue, as I think you are trying to say, that
it is safer to cycle at night without lights, reflectors, etc. Hence I
have no opinion on such.

There is a difference, in my mind, between purely individual
superstitions and populist bicycling superstitions. Populist
superstitions imply that there is some coherent body of advocates for
them, which is the content of Sam's harangues.
