Hi all,
We are excited to be bringing home our adopted daughter from India soon. We are looking for unusual but meaningful names for her. We would love to name her something that means gift, boon, blessing, miracle, or anything along those lines.

Thank you for any input!

Usha.

Namaste.
She is like Sita or Janaki and Shakuntala who were adopted daughters
and rose to eminence !
We wish you and your daughter all best ! Whatever name she will
receive she should be a true Indian daughter !
God bless her !
Regards,
SMMishra

To amplify one of the meanings given by Ms. Vasantha Syamalam's, from what I have read about 'Aparna' - When we pray to a God or Goddess, He or She is sort of indebted to us. Goddess Parvathi answers the prayer immediately or gives the fruits immediately. Hence She is never indebted.

Namaste,
Aparna also means reliever of debts, aparna chandika chanda munda sura nishoodini,(sri lalithasahsranama) 754th Nama.  i just keep chanting lalithasahsranama, so immediately this name came to my mind.  Beyond this i do not know the meaning.  I am not a Sanskrit Scholar.  My father revered Sri V.Sadanand was a gold medallist in sanskrit from benares hindu university.  I am a Panditaha Putraha Shuntaha.

Thank you all for your suggestions and the links. We have considered Hridaya and Stuti - nice to know they have such lovely meanings!
We are still debating names and I am glad to have so many more to add to the mix.

Vishvaanandita -- The Bliss (of the Universe)  OR Vishva Smitha (Smile of the Universe)  It is as if she is the Whole Universe of bliss to you OR  She is your whole universe of Smile!!

(I stilll cherish and am  mentally nourished by the fanciful nick-name my father had bestowed on me with a story to go along with it -- "VishNu-smitha" (it seems that once when VishNu was bored he conjured me up with the "makaranda" of his "Vyjayanthi maala", which brought a smile to his face -- so I was Vishnu-smitha, the bringer of smile to vishnu! :))))))) Actually I almost believed it right up to my highschool days!!!  In the whole of BrhmaaNDa I was the the most unique -- the only one created by VishNu and not Brahma -- the ordinary creator of everything else!!!!
