Pl will someone clear this though to you scholars it might seem silly.

It was not उन्नत : शिखर :၊ it is  हिमालय पर्वतः उन्नत शिखर : अस्ति၊ (visvasamskrita prathishtanam kovida book, pg 97.) But in vigraha it is given उन्नतानि शिखराणि यस्मिन् सः उन्नत शिखर : . उन्नत शिखर : ekavachana and उन्नतानि... Plural. 

Why the difference in vachanas. 

My sister is appearing for the exam. It's her doubt. She asked many but couldn't get an answer.

unnata is not an independent word in unnatas'ikharah

It is part of a compound (samaasa)

It has no visarga at the end of it. 

As a part of a comound, it does not take the linga vibhakti vachana pratyayas. Those pratyayas get manifest in vigrahavaakya. When they get manifest in vigrahavaakya, the word  unnata gets the linga , vibhakti and vachana pratyayas of the uttarapada (the second component word of the compound) as demanded by the agreement rules of Sanskrit.

Google is not showing something grammatically correct in Sanskrit, it not suggesting the connection of उन्नत: and वृक्षाः but it is merely showing that उन्नत:  is used frequently.
