बालबोध-सूक्तयः
Poetry Section of Balabodha – Part 1
There are three chapters in Poetry Section of Balabodha.
First chapter gives meaning and gist of following ten maxims.
१ यथा कर्म तथा फलम् = As you sow, so you reap.
२ आशा दुःखस्य कारणम् = Greed is the root cause of sorrow.
३ दूरतः पर्वताः रम्याः = Mountains look Beautiful from a distance.
४ गतस्य शोकः न कर्तव्यः = No use crying over spilt milk.
५ शीलं परम् भूषणम् = Character is man’s best ornament.
६ अति तृष्णा विनाशाय = Extreme hankering leads to destruction.
७ कायः कस्य न वल्लभः = To whom is body not dear ?
८ मूर्खस्य नास्ति औषधम् = There is no medicine for a fool.
९ बलीयसी केवलं ईश्वरेच्छा = The will of God is supreme.
१० जननी जन्मभूमिश्च स्वर्गादपि गरीयसी = Mother and motherland are of greater importance than heaven.
The exercise given is – “Answer following questions –
१ दुःखस्य कारणम् किम् ?
२ कस्य शोकः न कर्तव्यः ?
३ परम् भूषणम् किम् ?
४ सर्वस्य कः वल्लभः भवति ?
५ कस्य औषधम् नास्ति ?
६ कस्य इच्छा बलीयसी ?
७ स्वर्गादपि का गरीयसी ?
One can frame number of questions by oneself and practise answering them.
