Hi janaki,

Writing in English but will provide exact meaning on word "vishwa".

Jagat word is stand for trilok which includes swarga, bhuloka, patala.

Vidhwa WOR stand for or lokas :

There 14 super lokas : bhulok, bhuvar loka, yum loka, pitru loka, swar loka, mahar loka, Jana loka , tapa loka, satya loka, Brahma loka, Vishnu loka, shiv loka, shakti loka, go- loka.

7 patala

This 14 upper loka and 7 patala combine is called " vishwa".

I hope this makes very clear understanding.

As I understand, vishwa is the perceivable (material) universe.
My two pennies...

Thank you very much.  this is really fascinating.

In Gayathri mantra --only three lokas -- Bhuh, Bhuvaha, and Swahaha are used and they are designated as "vyaahruthis".  Can all the 14 lokas be considered as vyaahruthis?  I have heard one of the students (in a Samskrit class) add 4 more lokas -- Mahah, Janah, Tapah and Satya also.  Is there some significance using only 3 lokas as vyaahruthis or using 7 lokas (do they also become vyaahruthis?) at the beginning of the Gayathri mantra?  I am not sure what exactly are these "vyaahruthis?"  Can Gayathri be chanted without first mentioning of these vyaahruthis at the beginning?

I remember that another name for the Lady Goddess Gayathri is also "tri-paada-aksharey"-- the One Who adorns and is adorned (and adored) by the aksharas (syllables -- 24 to be exact) which are organized in three paadaas (lines, portions or legs/ supporting-pedestrals). But  adding these vyaahruthis make the syllable-count more than 24!  I also vaguely remember that one of our epics (probably Ramayana) has 24 chapters because of the 24 syllable-count of Gayathri mantra.

Any clarification about these points will be greatly appreciated.

I sincerely apologize if these questions of mine are rather trivial for the caliber of scholars in this forum.  Sorry:((

I wonder if you could list the names of the 14 lower lokas also.  Thank you most kindly.

Warm regards,

Dear Scholars ,

If I am understand question , it ask about meaning of sanskrit word "vishwa"

Following post does not provide it and tries to provide blur meaning and grammar explanation.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Few questions :

1) Where we are living currently ? Is it Bhu-loka or else ?
2) Our earth is in "vishwa" or out of "vishwa" ?
3) What "loka" word means and what "puri" word means ( bhu-loka, Brahma-puri, Vaikuntha etc )
4) What Bhagwat Puran , Devi Bhagwat, Gayatri shloka , Vishnu Puran , MahaBharata says about lokas and Patals ?
5) What purans and Upanishad says about "Jagat" word .
6) If Brahma destroy tri-loka on end of his one day what are those tri-loka ?
7) When Brahma completes his age of 100years and got died then what happen to "satya-loka" and "Brahma-puri" ?
8) If Shakti have created 3 ishvara ( Brahma-Vishnu- Shiva) then where Shakti living ?
9) Who is Narayana and where Krishna came from ?

Please go through above questions and ask yourself  if "lokas" and "Patala" are not true then what is truth ? Where we are living ?
Why all Purans , Upanishads , Mahabharat says same things ? Is it myth or have actual cosmological details  ?

Answer of above question will be more helpful to understand actual meaning of word "Vishwa" .

This thread will be long  but I hope it will benefits us all.

Thanks,
Gaurang

dear janakisharan ji, namaste.
i am though not authorised to write anything about your good questions .. yet tempted to write as below. hope that leaders of the group will pardon me.
Gayatri is goddess.. agreed. the form of the goddess is alphabetical divided in three padas.. gayatri is also a meter ( chaanda) of 24 words traditionally . if some one undersatand the matrika varnas by their colour, place, guna and karma, devataa and aayudha etc, and later unite them togather and then analyse them -- may come close to understand the gAyatri.
the form of gAyatri in the body is also considerable. ( yat piNDe tat brahmANDe) 14 lokas = sapta pAtAla = from nAbhi to toe. sapta Urdhvaloka = from nAbhi to throat. some pictures show upto brahmaranshra but i do not agree because the 3 gunas are ending at throat. upper part to throat is chidAkAsh.
