It seams to me that this project is no longer actively maintained. Am I wrong?

In 1858, after visiting the pretty spa town of Harrogate in North Yorkshire, England, Charles Dickens described it as,

"The queerest place with the strangest people in it leading the oddest lives..."

And still true to this day! Home Sweet Home.

So do I. But if check for supporting material, It's no longer available. Also the Ubuntu's Linux Rex repository is no longer available.
Please visit: https://www.rexify.org/docs/api.html and click on some of the links.

On https://github.com/RexOps/rex-recipes there are 5 pull requests since the 14th of february 2017.
The fewer number of commits on Rex project in last 8 months, are evidences that this project is dying. I no longer see contributions or support messages from Jan Gehring.

www.rexify.org seems to be up again -- last week it was down.

hi,

one of the rex maintainers here. I personally don't consider rex as a dead project, despite the low activity. I wish I could work on it more, but it proves to be hard to find the quality time simply because life happens (in chronological order: being knocked out of tech for a year due to burnout, changing jobs, moving to a another city hundreds of kilometres away, getting married, selling/renovating flats in another country).

In fact, I started to organize an open source contribution meetup locally so I have some dedicated time to work on non-paid open source stuff again (mostly rex) in a managed fashion. So at least once a month I'm sitting down and going through open issues and pull requests. Plus I committed a contribution guide earlier this year that should make many workflows around the project smoother.

Maintaining all the surrounding additional stuff (website, CI, build pipelines, repos, etc. + sister projects like repositorio and rex-recipes + support over IRC/mailing list) are currently beyond me. If anyone is interested in helping out, I'm happy to discuss ideas and review code.

All help are welcome :)

Have fun,
FErki

Would the developers of Rex be willing to discuss Rex on Floss Weekly?  I am just thinking this might be a way to get an increase in contributions.  This would probably require more management time though.  Just a consideration.  I personally would love to listen to Rex being discussed on Floss Weekly.  The host is a huge Perl fan too.

Yeah, it's a good idea, why not. I didn't know FLOSS Weekly before, so thanks for the tip!

Personally I would say first let's get back to a sustained level of activity again, and then I would be happy to raise more awareness. We're working on simplifying all the things surrounding the project, and we believe that would reduce management overhead while also makes it easier to get involved.

Great, thanks for publishing about rex! Also thanks for posting about workarounds, and sorry for the inconvenience.

Meanwhile I had very inspiring discussions with community members about identifying pain points and what we could do to remove them. We ended up with quite a few ideas. Most, if not all, aimed at simplifying various parts of the ecosystem around rex in order to reduce maintenance overhead.

Just to mention a few off the top of my head:
 - moving the website to GitHub pages
 - replace rex-recipes/modules.rexify.org with a more sustainable approach
 - re-think packaging
 - loosening dependency policies
 - planned deprecation of old code
 - streamline testing approach
 - write more documents about design and scope

The first of which is already underway with a promising proof of concept, and we kinda feel that is the most important right now to allow the project to communicate more clearly and in a more timely manner. I expect those ideas will be published in a more detailed way as a kind of "roadmap" or similar in order to allow more people to be involved.
