Hi guys,

I'm tring to build a search function where users can enter a keyword
and do content searching.

The search textbox will be at the header, so it will be on every page.
The results returned will be on a search page.

Does anyone know how to start one? :) I really am a nubie...

Cheers,

Andry

Hi Andry,

I think you're missing a large piece of the puzzle. What is going to be indexing and searching your site? CMS only lets you create and publish pages to a server. Search needs to happen on that server that you publish to. Open Text Provides something called delivery server that has search built in. If what you need is very basic search functionality you can use a Google custom search on your site its free if you don't mind ads on the site or a reasonable charge to get rid of them.

If you are publishing to a windows IIS server there is an indexing service you can enable, but you will still need to write code to interact with it...

Hope that gets you on the right track.

Hi Andry,

Delivery Server (formerly LiveServer) provides full-text search
functionality. If you purchased this product, then this (high-level)
info should point you in the right direction:

• The search textbox submits the search text (query) to a search
results page (e.g., search-results.html).
• The search results page contains an Include DynaMent.
• The Include DynaMent “pulls” in the XML file that performs the full-
text search.
• The XML file that performs the full-text search does so via the
Query DynaMent.

You can find detailed information about the Include and Query
DynaMents in the product documentation (specifically, the “DynaMents”
manual).

A thing to note: besides having purchased Delivery Server, you also
need to have purchased either the Verity ("VSEK") or Common Search
("OTSC") module, as well.

I hope this is the info that you were looking for; let me know if you
have any questions or need additional info.

Best Regards,
Nik
