G'day

About 3 months ago, I saw a animated film, which used space
mini-fig's, and lots of lego pieces, as the basis for its animation. I can
vaguely remeber the storyline, but its not really worth repeating here.

I was just wondering if anyone has ever attempted it? Or whether anyone can
refer me to any sort of information regarding Lego animation? (I've
already posted something in rec.arts.animation).

I had this really bizzare idea of building (modifying from an old
mini-fig), a terminator mini-fig. The torso would have been built out of old
model bits, wire, etc. and the hands removed from the arms and attached to
the body via....(I havn't quite worked this bit out yet).. Anyway you get
the idea. Yeah I realise its a bit demented. But it would be a good
animation plot, to have a Lego terminator causing destruction in Lego Land.

Any comments:

Oh, yeah has anyone ever built weapons for their mini-figs (other than the
ones supplied by the company). Well if you have here is a good idea. Old
modeling sprue, is ideal for handles, (its not as good as the plastic that
lego uses, but its good enough). And if the sprue is too thick, you can
heat it over the stove (gently), and it stretches, i.e. it gets thinner:)
(I am currently building a mini-gun for my future lego terminator) -
applying the method I mentioned above for the gun barrels.

The National Film Board of Canada is constantly producing short films
on all kinds of subjects ( they call them Vignettes (sp?) ). A few
years back they did several sports related LEGO animations. There was a
hockey game, swimming, and ( I believe ) soccer. I remember thinking at
the time how much work they must have been, but the results were
impressive. In fact, I might just drop down to the local NFB and see if
they have anything.
