Valiant effort by Kohli, but the ball hits the fence.
A clubbed 6 and now its South Africa to the fore again.
RRR drops below 8. All South AFrica needs to do is to play sensible
cricket...
Now Raina takes a super catch -- everything happening here.... Like
Pathan in South Africa, he wasn't able to shift gears DOWN when the
situation required. That one dot makes the RRR 8.3 again
Oh my -- RSA still in with a great chance as Petersen is no mug with
the bat.
Bharat
Shades of the England game. A tail-ender smacks a 6 in the last over
to make a large target close...
Hopefully Petersen tries another big shot here, rather than just
taking singles (3 off 4 balls needed).
Bharat
Well played, South Africa!
You can't always get these things right, but Dhoni probably missed a
trick by bowling Harbhajan one over less than his quota.
As I speak, the idiots on TV are already jumping on him for it. Anjum
Chopra's making a valiant attempt on DD to introduce some sanity.

As a South African, that struck me as a very serious misjudgement. The
difference between winning and losing, in fact.
Ian
And how can you make him do that? By bringing the field in, right? I
couldn't believe my ears when the comms said that Dhoni has the same
field as the previous ball. 3 off 4 needed, and he was concerned about
conceding a boundary??
Rahul
Yes, I was staggered too. He did bring the fielders in after that ball,
when they needed 1 off 3, but by then it was too late to have much hope
of preventing the loss.

When Zak bowled the 49th over instead of Bhaj, I assumed that Bhaj would
bowl the last over. I doubt that South Africa would have won if that had
been the case.

Hindsight is 20-20. Bowling Nehra was conventional wisdom -- a pacer
bowls the death over -- always has, always will. Bowling Harbhajan
and losing would have left him open to even more criticism -- "how
could he bowl Harbhajan the last over???? Doesn't he know, you can
slog / hit spinners??"
Bowling Nehra may have been more of a CYA move, for all I know.
I'm struck by the fact that in our two non-wins, a pacer (not Zaheer)
has bowled the last over, and a tailender has smacked a 6 to bring a
big target close. Unlike others here, I'm not staggered by the
losses. India could easily have won both the games -- bowling over
#50 with 13 needed, is usually a "win" situation. And had we done so,
we'd probably have been far too overconfident. The tourney starts
with the QF's, and these losses may be the best thing that happened to
India, to guard against overconfidence.
Give Raina & Ashwin a game Dhoni -- you may need them...

I wasn't able to watch the live telecast (the crictime feed was more than a
bit iffy in the small hours) but I watched the cricinfo scorecard. Bhaj was
relatively economical leading up to the end. If they'd smacked him around a
little bit, SA would have still pulled up short. As per your post, they may
have smacked him around rather a lot. I don't think that would have
happened, although desperation may have seen the batsmen get the better of
him.
The only way to know would be to hop in a time machine and let Bhaj bowl the
last over.
