In efforts to erase the last effects of a fireworks trauma, I've
noticed Mac fears _no sound if he can see the source.
Is this usual? Or does it change how you would handle it?

Yes, use that to desensitize him. Start with ladyfingers or those
little pop things the kids throw. j;~}

That makes sense. After all, the "things that go boomp in the night" are
frightening only until we know their harmless cause.

Example: Ours use to bark at the microwave when popcorn was popping: We
picked her up and showed her where the noise came from - only had to do it
once - and she never barked again.

Indeed, Avrama:

I intend to become a _very noisy person.
Anticipated rousing games of cowboy and...er, Native-Americans,* but
can't find a cap pistol. Have parents put them out of business?
What's a ladyfinger, Jerry?
*Prompted by your "burly truck driver" in the manual. Very funny.

Thanks, Susan:
>22 blank pistol around $20

I'd better check our city ordinances about firing blanks. Let's see:
1. Seven dogs off-leash
2. Illegal firing of weapon
3. Resisting arrest
4. 6 large dogs attacking officer
5 1 Maltese wetting on officer `(this one could mean jail-time.)

22 crimped blanks sold as ramsets from Home Depot, in 4 different colors,
yellow the loudest, green next and a coulpe other less than those, $4.95 a

This is how I cured one of my dogs of fear of fireworks. First I must
explain, she was not that scared of them. She would tremble and flatten but
not run in terror. She had enough presence of mind to come to me to protect
her. I don't recommend this for a dog that bolts, or that is completely
terrified.
1. Put the dog on leash, using a flat collar or harness. No choke collars.
Have a handful of dog cookies.
2. Go to an enclosed area, so if your dog gets away they won't get in
trouble.
3. With the dog at your side, light a firework and throw it AWAY from the
dog. Praise the dog, and when the firework goes off praise and cookie.
Make a big fuss out of how much fun it is. Do this a few times, and the dog
might come around. Obviously, if the dog gets more scared you should stop.

Using this method, my dog went from fearing fireworks to running and chasing
them! This dog, like your dog feared no sound if she could see the source.
My present dog isn't scared of fireworks or thunder, but is a bit scared of
cars and semis, especially when the semis use their air brakes. I think
it's just good sense on her part.

Not a weapon. Can be sent USPS. Federal edict not a weapon -- locals can't
argue with that.
The piddling, though -- bad news.

Hello Chris,

You shoulda been there, it was a mind blower... I was ready to leave.

A lady finger is a little tiny fire cracker, but they come in a
package of like a hundred strung together. One is pretty innocuous.

Also there's the little pop snap things that look like a spit ball
the kids throw on the ground.

I could send you a couple of boxes. There's fifty snap to a box, and
you should be able to do as much as necessary with one or two boxes.
Get him playing and show him it's fun, it might do the trick...

Cost is fifty cents a pack.
I take visa/mastercard. j;~}

CAVEAT: Might not be a good idea to throw the firecracker if you got
