Rastafari Lives! I am writing this letter for a Bredrin held in captivity
and in need of friendship that has potential to develop into a deeper
relationship. The following is excerpt written by the Idrin:
i am need of the love and strength of a conscious Rasta Dawta unafraid and
unshamed to stand with one lost to Babylon. i am seeking a woman who is

Puh-LEASE! If this guy is really all that, why is he in prison?
Of course we should ALL write to him, and cheer him up and
give him good counsel if we can (and I don't mean legal counsel),
BUT -
A man who has been convicted of a crime, and is in prison, has
upon his release a statistical chance of greater than 60%, of
returning to prison within one year. Sisters, this man can
do NOTHING to help you, will probably HURT you in one way
or another, and should be approached only if you want to
give emotional support without caring about receiving any.
But, like I said, ALL of us should write to him, not just
sisters interested in a relationship with a convict.

am interested, but just as Racine said, we ALL should write him. He
might not be guilty. (I don't know what was said in the original post,

This "bredrin held in captivity"... what crime did he commit?
Robbery? Rape? Child abuse? Murder? *These* are the
type of things people go to prison for, and usually it is a
second or third conviction that puts them there. The guy
is no innocent martyr, no matter what color he is. The
fact that blacks are more likely to be convicted than whites
indicates that whites are *getting away with crimes*, not
that blacks don't commit crimes.
If I seem to be coming down a bit hard, it is because I was
a volunteer worker in a United States prison. Unlike prisons
in other parts of the world, for example Haiti, which were full
or *real* political prisoners, United States prisons are full
of *criminals*. They are con artists and liars, and will try
anything to manipulate someone into giving them something
that they want - money, a line of communication to people
outside, whatever.

accepting money in exchange for an insubstantial amount of harmless
vegetation! If you don't know what this person was sent to prison for, judge
not! (btw, killing of an animal may also be highly illegal dep. on the
circumstances...so watch yourself!)

Look, here's where it's at:
When I lived in Haiti, both my professional duties and my personal
inclinations required me to visit prisons and hospitals, try to save the
innocent from torture and help the sick recover. Even before I
traveled outside of the U.S., I worked as a volunteer in a prison,
helping the men there to write letters and so forth. I believe I
mentioned this near the beginning of the thread, as the experience
which forms the basis of my conclusions.
The torture victims and political prisoners of Haiti, I had NO trouble
with sheltering in my house (except, of course, for the trouble from
the rightist military and paramilitaries, who could have raided my
house and murdered us all, at any moment.) BUT - people who
have been convicted not once but several times, and of violent or
otherwise serious crimes, these brothers and sisters are NOT
my houseguests. I do not have the professional expertise to
deal with them, nor do I possess the physical prowess necessary
before I would subject myself to the risk involved. Would you
leave a three-time rapist at home alone with your mother?

This is a quote from the Christian's bible. We who are Vodouisants
DON'T CARE WHAT THE BIBLE SAYS. I keep telling you this.
Jews in Old Testament times performed animal sacrifices. Until
present, the Roman Catholic Church sacrifices a sheep every
Year of Jubilee. And better that than the sacrifice of millions of
Africans in the Christian (and earlier, Muslim) sponsored slave trades!
In any case, I repeat, we are not Christians or Jews, we are Vodouisants.
We have our own religion, our own tradition, our own prayers, liturgy,
and sources of validation; all of which are derived from AFRICA.
Similar traditions include Santeria, Pocomania, Candomble and a
few others.
