If you haven't checked out the Nuke page, do it. (www.nuke.com) Mario 5
has been announced for the SNES and will be coming out in October, and is
based again on Mario and Yoshi. It is coming out in August in Japan, and
I don't know if this is right or not, but according to EGM (ugh), it is
going to be $120! They said 9800 yen, which by current exchange rates is
$120, but that's crazy.

You have to remember that games in Japan are often much more expensive
that games in the U.S. If I recall correctly, Final Fantasy VI was over
1000 something yen when it first came out. If I'm wrong, can someone tell
me the retail price of FFVI?

Wow!! 1000 yen!!! isn't that about a dollar? whoa, pretty expensive. But
seriously youre right about games being more expensive dollar for yen but
people in Japan tend to make more money also.

That would make FFVI a whopping $10.

Yoshi's Island *IS* considered to be Mario 5. Just like Mario 4 is Super
Mario World.

If Yoshis Island takes place chronologically BEFORE the other Super Mario
games, I don't think it would be considered a sequel.

What about SM world? It took place before the NES games, but it's still a sequel. Nintendo's just trying to be creative.
One thing, though. I've seen screenshots and the memory count, but this game just doesn't add up to DKC in the graphics department.
You'd think they'd use ACM on their next Mario game,and/or 32-meg cart size instead of the 16 their planning on so Yoshi's world would be as good as DKC.

You'd be wrong.

Ok, ok sure, ok. But when will it be out in the US? I've never heard of
such a game. It's not even listed in the upcomming games list in "Nintendo
Power".

It will be coming to the U.S. this October. Nintendo had the game listed
in their "Upcoming Super NES Games" Pak Watch section of Nintendo Power
Source on AOL as "Fall '95" about a week ago. Before I even knew what in
the hell it was. <G> Anyways, the August EGM is supposed to have pics of
it. I don't know if Nintendo Power will have pics this month or what.
Anyways, the game WASN'T even mentioned anywhere at E3. It just came out
of nowhere within the past week or so.

Wait. It will in the newest issue. This is what they did for DKC, too.

Yoshi's Island is not Super Mario Bros.5, but it is an official Mario
game for the SNES. It has been finished for over a year but kept back
for reasons only Nintendo Japan know.
In the game you control Yoshi who has a baby Mario on his back.
Sometimes Mario falls (or gets knocked) off and you have to get him
back.
It's also Shigeru Miyamoto's last 16bit game for the SNES. Next Ultra
64!
The game uses the Super FX chip to animate, scale and rotate huge
screen-high sprites and backgrounds.
It's 16Mbit and comes out in Japan on August 8th.
According to a secret source, it does for platforming on the SNES what
Mario 3 did for the NES. And Mario 3 is the best selling video game of
all time!

The latest news I've heard is that Yoshi's Island has been canned for the
Snes and instead will be released for the Ultra 64 sometime next year.

Ooopsie...you're right! I did mean for the SNES in October 1995. Who
the hell designed these darn keyboards anyway? No room for error!
Thanks for catching me on that!
