I've been playing around with deck ideas to take advantage of
phasing by combining it with mass destruction. One attempt
is given below. The intent is to slow down the opponent
with counterspells, Man'o'war, until I can get my big blue
fatties out and phasing in sync or on command. A phasing
(or boomerang'd or man'o'war'd) floodgate or disk keeps my opponent
from building up much once the deck is rolling. Ideally, I
can phase out a couple of big guys, activate the disk, phase
the disk, and clean the board. At the start of my next turn
I'll have my big blue creatures back, and a disk to re-use
on the following turn when the creatures phase back out.

FoW and Arcane Denial are used as counters, because casting
and phasing the creatures sucks a lot of mana. Black is in
solely for the Vault and Tutor, to get the combos rolling.

However, I've found a few weaknesses to the scheme, the main
one being speed, the second being it's pretty hosed if it doesn't
pull a disk (esp. if the opponent's creatures are immune to
the floodgate - blue or flyers). So I'm thinking of putting in
another phaser instead of the Cloud Elemental, dropping the Vanishing
and Deflection to make room for more counters and/or tutors, maybe
a Tidal Wave, Shimmering. Either that or going heavier on black,
but given the phasing costs & casting costs on these creatures,
it needs to be nearly single-color.

Deck version 1 - Blue/Black

2 Lim-Dul's Vault
2 Impulse
1 Vampiric Tutor
2 Mist Dragons
2 Rainbow Efreets
2 Shimmering Efreet
1 Cloud Elemental
1 Sandbar Crocodile
2 Floodgate
2 Man'o'war
4 Force of Will
2 Arcane Denial
1 Deflection
4 Nevinyrral's Disk
4 Reality Ripple
2 Vanishing
1 Boomerang
3 Bad River
1 Underground River
3 Swamp
1 Mana Vault
16 Islands
1 Soldevi Excavations

I haven't carefully designed a sideboard yet because the deck's
been changing a lot, but it'd include a healthy dose of anti-red,
lodestone baubles, and so on.

The other version of the deck, which I haven't built & tried
yet, would be Blue/White. Enlightened Tutors would get the
Disks into my hands, a couple of Wraths would supplement the
Disks destruction power, the Honorguard are cheaper phase-on-command
creatures than the big blues, and so on.

Deck Version 2 - Blue/White
2 Enlightened Tutor
2 Impulse
4 Teferi's Honorguard
2 Rainbow Efreet
2 Mist Dragon
2 Shimmering Efreet
2 Man'o'War
1 Sandbar Crocodile
4 Force of Will
2 Arcane Denial
4 Reality Ripple
4 Nevinyrral's Disk
2 Wrath of God
1 Relic Ward
1 Boomerang
3 Floodplains
2 Ardakur Wastes
1 Mana Vault
7 Plains
12 Islands

Any suggestions on these color combos greatly appreciated. I'm
also looking at red/blue decks with a similar flavor...

I put the deck up from memory, and forgot to mention that
I'd put two Spatial Bindings in there...I bet I didn't have
the 2 Arcane Denials in the original version. Spatial Binding
seems to me to be a more effective way to get your
creatures in sync in their phasing. I'm wondering
if Sands of Time would work in this version of the deck - yet
another permanent to have to phase out when you disk. I don't
think the two artifacts are compatible, but that Sands & Wrath
in the Blue/White version would work better than Disks. In the
blue/white, I'd be tempted to sideboard the Equipoise unless I
knew that weenies were the dominant deck type. Finally, I don't
know how I overlooked Vision Charms!

Not to mention you can kill those annoying Tar Pit Warriors and Skulkies
by paying 1 life!
