Given the third edition change to Shadow Court Satyr, he can now use
combat cards that require a vampire (such as Taste of Vitae).

This includes Amaranth.

If a Shadow Court Satyr plays Amaranth, is there a blood hunt
referendum?

Thanks,

Yes.

No. [RTR 30-JUN-1997]

"13) Only vampires may commit diablerie. Effects that would allow something
other than a vampire to commit diablerie are ignored. For example, Amaranth
is useless if played on a Shadow Court Satyr. "

Moot.

Oh man. I guess a half bottle of wine based decision wasn't going to
last forever.

Stupid precedents.

If it wasn't moot there would be a blood hunt. The rulebook says that
a blood hunt is called on the diablerist and continues to refer to
them as a diablerist, not a vampire throughout the secton on
diablerie. It will continue to be moot until there is a reversal (if
ever) to the "only vampires can commit diablerie" ruling, though.

Thanks for the answer.

Relatedly, if a Satyr uses the effect of a Target Vitals (or other aim
card) on him, can it be canceled by discarding combat cards? The card
is not being played (not even played "not as normal" as I understand
it), so the effect of "cancel this card" is unclear.

Target Vitals
Type: Combat
Aim. Play when choosing a strike.
If any damage from this strike is successfully inflicted on the
opposing minion, he or she takes an additional 2 damage from this
strike, and he or she cannot press this round. The opposing minion may
discard two combat cards [COMBAT] to cancel this card. A minion may
play only one aim each strike.

Shadow Court Satyr (Changeling)
Type: Ally
Requires: Gangrel antitribu
Cost: 3 pool
Changeling with 3 life. 1 strength, 1 bleed.
When the Satyr enters play, you may put a combat card from your hand
on him. Once each combat, the Satyr may use the ability of that card
as if played from your hand. If the card requires a vampire (e.g.,
costs blood or requires a Discipline), he may use it as a vampire with
the basic level of the Discipline (if any).

Thanks again,

Yes.

Card text: "as if played from your hand".

Another such call would be Pack Alpha. Would the Satyr be able to get
the ally at the cost of a life?

A retainer? yes. Card text.
(An ally? no).

Moreover, the Satyr could use Pack Alpha to get an animal retainer that itself
required Animalism, since he'd be using the Pack Alpha as a vampire with
Animalism. Card text.

but i thought only the pack alpha would see him as having animalism, not
the retainer that requires ani?

this all sounds awfully familiar...

He can play Pack Alpha as a vampire with animalism would.

A vampire with animalism would be able to play Pack Alpha to get an
Owl Companion or Raven Spy.
