Been playing a lot of Starship Troopers lately. GOOD game! Best Sega game
since Frankenstein, I think.

A lot to do, lots of multiballs, no modes, a rocking soundtrack, attitude, and
the best screams since Golden Axe! It's amazing how well a good scream can
carry a game (I especially like killing the final green bug...)

I like the triple flipper, it's something new. I don't use it often, it
creates drains when it's raised (due to the gap. Mind the gap! :-) )
It is handy to hit the Warrior though.

Found two tricks:
Try to get Recon Level *5*, instead of 6, if you can. You will be guaranteed
multiball, extra ball lit, or special lit. (All level 6 gives is a crappy
25M, most of the time)
This game has the Sega Bonus Bug: get hold bonus (random from Recon Level 1?),
and all bonus, *including* the multiplied total, will be held! Next ball, if
you get multipliers, you get the entire total value to be multiplied again.
The bonus can go up exponentially this way... I got 40M in bonus once, doing
this, and if Hold Bonus came up more consistently, could do it more often.

Only thing bad about the game is it is sometimes random. The wizard mode,
Klendathu, is almost impossible to get normally... but the game coughs it up
every so often from Recon Level 6! It's kind of disappointing, it spoils the
suspense and the wizard mode is kind of dull anyway.
The scoring seems a bit unbalanced as well. Orbit Multiball pays off hugely,
compared to the normal multiball, considering you can add more balls into
play easily here. The Ground attack and Air attack modes are dull, scoring
very few points with no way to increase the amount.

It would have been nicer if the digital displays had been used to more effect:
showing how many shots left until the super jackpot, showing how many balls
are on the field during multiball, or something like that.

The skill shot is a bit dull. They should have just turned off the top magnet
and let you plunge the shot (possibly into the Orbit lock, ala Tommy). Now,
it falls into "U" in BUG almost 99% of the time.

Still, GOOD game. Been playing it a lot lately. The targets, ramps, and
orbits go together well. The sound effects are great too (making up for
Viper, whose sound is so disgusting a voice even tells you how disgusting it
is).

Love all the little things that flash on the brain bug during the match
sequence...

Hey,Im glad to see a positive review of Troopers.Ive been playing this
game a ton due to it being the only new machine in my area.It is the
best Sega in my opinion in the last 2 years.
U can deactivate the magnet on the skill shot,by holding in the left
flipper button. Also I use ground and air attack to build bonus since
the magnet is active.By using the little flipper on the bugs....it
will sometimes award double bugs. That tiny flipper can be used for
drop catches,to slow the ball down for the regular flipper, all the
shots on the left side of the machine, even the recon scoop.
I enjoy the ramp hurryup as well as missle attack.I didnt realize
just how big a round missle attack can be until the other day when a
friend of mine scored over 20 million off of it.
Orbit multiball is the weakest part of the game.I wish they could
have added the finish bugs on it,instead of Livefire assault.Which
with the Super JP could have stood on its own I think.
Stacking planets for planet multiball is where the big points are.400
million multiball are not out of the question!

One last quirk is the lag time between finishing a planet(or mother
bug) and starting the hurry up.Hitting a ball into the scoop or a
sweet deflection off the motherbug into the saucer and not getting
the just reward is not a pleasent feeling.Of course I could be playing
with old roms,as this could have been fixed.

Overall an excellent machine. That has been reliable as well.

hehe, got this on a SEGA Twister once. I got 10 or 11 times bonus, with
a bonus hold, and then another 10X bonus (by a feature). I don't know
how much it was, but it could be a billion easily (100X bonus
effectively!).

Try holding you left flipper while plunging! ;-O
