Looking for a little feedback on my annual Expo open house this
year.......

Last year we held it on Friday from noon to 6pm. We ran a shuttle bus
for 3 round trips leaving Expo at 11:00am, 1:00pm, and 3:00pm, with
arrival back at Expo at 3:00pm, 5:00pm, and 7:00pm, respectively, i.e.
- the people on the 11:00am departure bus returned to Expo at 3:00pm,
etc.

The shuttle ride ticket price last year was $10.00, but it was
refundable towards $10.00 worth of parts once you got to Pinball
Life. No purchase was necessary once you arrived at Pinball Life, but
if you didn't turn in your bus ticket for $10.00 worth of product then
by default your bus ride to and from was $10.00. Free food and free
beer was served all day. Drinks CAN be consumed on the shuttle bus.

We ran a 1-ball tournament as well and that was a big hit.

This all seemed to work out pretty well. Yes, I know it clashes with
the seminars and the tournaments, but many seem to not be into either
of those things so this excursion offers an alternative.

This year the event will be held at the new place which is actually a
few miles closer to Expo and easier to find since it is right of I-90.

I am looking for ways to improve the experience, so all ideas,
comments, and criticisms will be considered.

Terry.

maybe a couple 'Hooters' girls to run the cash register this year, the
guy that ran it last year wasn't a pretty sight! :)

Work with Gene to have him host his wares at your new digs instead of
that fleabag he was at last year.

P.S. I'm only half joking BTW if you actually have some space...

for midget? Height challenged?

In all seriousness (ok, half serious)..... Not sure there is anything
that needs to be changed. Now that you are at your new location, crowd
management should be easier.

To take it back a step, yeah the clown at the register.... need a few
more clowns..... Maybe then you can hob nob with your clientele.

Question for you. How as your inventory after the event? I know the
hardware (legs, rails, etc) and DMD's were gone pretty fast. Any chance
for you to stock more of them?

I would stay the course and see how the new space handles the event
before you try and change anything because quite frankly, its fine the
way it is.

seriously though from everything that I've seen and heard over the
years your open house is a big part of what many look forward to
during Expo and now with the new location I can't see how you could
make things better.

This will be my first Expo (already a PL customer); last year's set-up
sounds great (beer!) , and the suggestions here would put it over the
top! (Hooters girls and midgets--separately, of course!)

Maybe quicker return times for the bus so people that know what they
want can make their purchases and get back to the show if the want?

Unfortunately, the bus was running as fast as it could last year. It
was running as a shuttle, back and forth. The only way to decrease
the time in between shuttle trips is to add another physical vehicle.
Would it be worth it? :)

Ok, so midgets, strippers, animals, animal outfits, inflatable jumpy
things, Gene Cunningham, more cow bell, a live band, and make sure
Brian sees my wife naked (oh wait, he already has apparently. I'll
cross that one off of the list).
Perfect. Ok, expect all of the above :-).
Terry.

We would expect nothing less of you, Terry. :-)

Seriously, don't hurt yourself coming up with anything other than what
you've done in the past. The pins, the food, the adult beverages and
the great deals (oh, and seeing the new digs) is plenty for most of
us. I can't wait.

I would only suggest moving the pins and goodies to the loading dock
so you can open up the warehouse a bit more for the massive influx of
people.

Terry,
What about posting your expo sale prices earlier so that people can
prepay/preorder just with no shipping on the sale prices so that it
has to be picked up at your open house. This way if you get a lot of
orders for specific parts, you have time to restock for those that are
undecided until they show up.

It wouls suck knowing that the drunk guy that stunk up the shuttlebus
was able to get your last beer and set of pinball legs just cause he
drank all night instead of going to bed and beat you to the open house
first

So can i preorder a few beers for the time that i want to come there.

Well grease up the stripper pole, chill the beer, and we'll bring the
whole Spooky Pinball crew this year! Bryan Kelly says the seminars
can't hold a candle to the Pinball Life party!

We'll ask K.T. and Little Lisa to dress appropriately for the
occasion. :-)

Pre-orders are always welcome, especially if the order is large.
Actually, I prefer a pre-order is your list is long so as to be able
to quickly transact the sale and keep things moving along. Send me an
e-mail with your list; the sooner the better.

Once I get a list of specials together I will post them here. Right
now Expo is a little too far away for me to know exactly what will be
on sale. Basically, EVERYTHING is on sale during the Expo open
house, but the focus is on the party, not the parts. I want it to be
fun for people to come out to Pinball Life and enjoy the games, food,
drink and conversation first, and fiscally advantageous for me
second. If I break even I consider the event successful (seriously).

This year's line up of games is currently:
Independence Day
Jurassic Park
Blackout
NASCAR
Godzilla
Big Strike
Spider-Man
LOTR
Shadow

This list is subject to change, but that is the current line up.

Terry.

Yes, all ages are welcome. If you are ok with your 12 year old
witnessing beer consumption and hearing an occasional swear word
(pretty much a given in a large adult crowd) then you are all set.

ole Midwestern style State Fair of sorts . You might as well add Deep
